NBA Update: Orlando Magic conquered Phoenix Suns, 105-89
In the absence of Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns performance was not up to the mark, as the Magic dominated the paint, outscoring Suns 105 - 89 at Amway Center, Orlando. The 18,846 folks were disappointed with the performance of Suns, are no more bandwagon hoppers.
Prominent players
Magic’s Dwight Howard led six players in double figures with 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Jameer Nelson had eight of his 12 assists in the first quarter of the game, and no turnovers while shooting 6-for-8.
Five players at Suns end scored points in double digits. Grant Hill headed Suns with 21 points and Earl Clark contributed 12 points, 2 assists and 6 rebounds.
Game story
Don't act like you weren't surprised of the defeat of Phoenix Suns!
The Suns had little hope from the beginning, especially with Mr. Nash on the bench, wearing a nifty outfit with coat and tie.
Are the Suns tired? Yes. Of course, point guard for the Suns Steve Nash didn't play due to injury. We cannot blame Nash’s absence in the game for the defeat; a balanced Magic attack destroyed the Suns. The Suns were outclassed from the opening tip and had
virtually no chance to win the game.
All four quarters of the game were fully subjugated by the Magic, the way they captured the court, hats off to them!
They laid the foundation of victory in the very first session of the game with 18 points lead. The deficit was further extended to 28 points by the end of first half of the game. Wow what a grand lead!
The Magic were at the peak by the end of third quarter of the game with 32 points lead. The Suns tried their level best to cut down the deficit in the final phase of the game, but Magic kept on heading them by the end of the play.
Turning Point of the Game
Magic’s Howard and Quentin Richardson scored two baskets each on a 13-0 run that wiped out a 9-8 Phoenix lead.
Remarkable Player
The name of Scott Skiles (set the National Basketball Association (NBA) single-game record for assists with 30 while playing for the Magic on December 30, 1999) was called upon when Nelson put up eight assists in the first nine minutes. Nelson finished with
12 assists for the game.
Meager Performance
Former Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu came into the game in the third quarter of the game, rather than performing healthy, he missed all five of his threes and shot 0-for-8 overall with three turnovers.
Quotable
Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said, "If you look at their numbers, they're not a great defensive team anyway. They're an up-and-down team that's going to score a lot of points. Without Steve Nash, it's hard for them to play at that pace, and then we shot
the ball well."
"Can they play without Dwight? Can the Lakers play without Kobe? [Nash] is our Kobe. He's our Dwight. He's the engine that makes the car go,"
said Phoenix coach Alvin Gentry.
