NBA Update – Orlando Magic win 97-88 against the Houston Rockets
Last year’s team that made the record for scoring most points, Orlando Magic were up against the Yao Ming’s Houston Rockets. This match that took place this Tuesday in the State Farm Arena in Texas promised to be an intriguing encounter; last year’s scoring
champion team up against the team that had the comeback of their best player.
However, this didn’t change the outcome of the match as Orlando Magic outplayed the Houston Rockets and won the match 97-88 with Yao Ming only managing to score 3 points. Though Yao Ming played for just 12 minutes, but with the quality he has shown over
the past couple of seasons; 12 minutes are enough for him to demolish a team completely.
1st quarter
During the 1st period the game was a tight one with both teams attacking and fighting for the lead. This didn’t mean that they left the defence wide open for the opposition.
Both the teams were able to come up with excellent pieces of play that saw appreciation from not only the home fans but also the opposition team fans.
The Houston Rockets were able to score 26 points during the 1st period, whereas, the Orlando Magic scored only 29 points during the first period. The notable players who scored in the 1st quarter were Vince Carter from the Orlando Magic
and Kevin Martin from the Houston Rockets. Both players guided their teams to tough 1st quarter with the score 26-29 at the end.
2nd quarter
The 2nd quarter saw Courtney Lee of the Houston Rockets take up the challenge and guided the Houston Rockets a little in their path to win. This was not to be as the Orlando Magic responded to the quick and fast breaks of the Houston Rockets.
During the 2nd quarter, Houston Rockets managed19 points. The main reason for this being the fact that the Orlando Magic were able to maintain a very decent defence and didn’t give away unnecessary fouls. Coupled with this was the strong offence
they came up with after they managed to score 32 points.
At the end of the 2nd quarter, the score was 61-45 in favour of the Orlando Magic. Nelson scored the last points of the quarter through a splendid three-pointer.
3rd Quarter
The quarter of the match was relatively less productive in terms of points for both teams, as Houston Rockets managed to score only 21 points and the Orlando Magic could just bag a disappointing 17 points.
This gave the Houston Rockets some glimmer of hope that they could come back, and the attack was led by Brooks. The Orlando Magic’s attack was led by J.J Redick who bagged a three-pointer right at the end of the 3rd quarter.
4th Quarter
The 4th quarter of the match saw a balanced contest between the two teams where the Orlando Magic scored 19 points and the Houston Rockets were able to score 22 points.
Both teams cancelled out each other and there was no single that could be declared as being the best of the quarter. It was a hard battle which saw the defence dictate most of the quarter. What enabled the players to score was the fact that they formed good
plays along with other players which led to a basket.
Orlando Magic’s Vince Carter was able to score a few points and bag some assists during this quarter. The Houston Rockets didn’t have any individual performer during the quarter but to the end Alexander Johnson and Jermaine Taylor combined well to score
quite a few points for the Magic’s.
The match ended in favour of the Orlando Magic as they won 97-88 in front of 4854 fans in match during which the lead changed 2 times and was tied once. The top scorer for the match was Dwight Howard who scored 19 points for the Orlando Magic.
