NBA Update: Paul Pierce, Tony Parker earn POW honours this week

Another week has come and gone, and it’s time again to award the Player of the Week (POW) honours to one player from each conference.
Bagging the POW honour in the Western Conference is the Spurs’ point guard Tony Parker. Leading the team to a perfect score for the week, Parker averaged 25.7 points and 8.7 assists with 56.4 percent shooting.
In three matches last week, Parker’s score continued to rise. Scoring 16 with 8 assists in the opening match against the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday, Parker recorded his season high of 37 points with 9 assists on Saturday leading the Spurs to a 112-106 win
over the Memphis Grizzlies. Shooting 71.4 percent in the game, Parker helped lead the Spurs to their highest point win in the week.
This is the fifth time Parker has been awarded the honour by the league, although this is his first season. He last won the honour in 2008-09 season.
Another top team’s player getting the POW, Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics was awarded the honour today in the Eastern Conference.
With one triple-double and two double-doubles this week, Pierce averaged 21.7 points with 8.7 assists, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals. Putting in superb performance for the week, Pierce helped the Celtics extend their winning streak to thirteen games ending
another week with a perfect untainted score.
His highest score for the week came in their opening match on Wednesday when the Celtics visited New York to take on the Knicks. Putting the hot Knicks back in their places, the Celtics snapped the former’s season high winning streak of eight games. Pierce
registered 32 points with ten rebounds and four assists. With four seconds left in the last quarter, Pierce made the winning shot securing a 118-116 win over the Knicks. In their last night matchup with the Indiana Pacers, Pierce recorded 18 points with 12
assists and ten rebounds.
