NBA Update: Rudy g*y suffers one-game suspension; George Karl and Andre Miller fined
In three separate incidents during the week, one coach and two professional players were penalized by the NBA administration today.
NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations Stu Jackson announced today that Memphis Grizzlies’ Rudy g*y would be suspended for one game without pay following a Flagrant Foul, Penalty Two against Luis Scola of the Houston
Rockets.
The Grizzlies met the Rockets last night at the Toyota Centre, Houston. g*y charged and knocked down Scola in the fourth quarter. Following his ejection from the game, g*y said,
"I kind of let my anger get the best of me, and it's not characteristic of me or anybody else on this team. Me, as a leader, I probably shouldn't have done that."
The Grizzlies play the San Antonio Spurs tonight as they visit Memphis. g*y’s absence from the team would surely mean trouble for the Grizzlies since he is currently averaging a team high of 21.0 points this season. g*y would next
play on Tuesday 21st December when the Grizzlies host the New Jersey Nets.
Jackson also announced today that the Denver Nuggets’ coach George Karl was fined twenty five thousand dollars. Following their 112-113 home loss against the Spurs on Thursday, Karl made public comments about the match officials
for which he was fined by the league today.
The comment that earned Karl the fine was when he said, “...It seemed like the referees, they like to hit us with tough calls...”
Karl recently became the seventh coach to record a 1000 wins joining the likes of Larry Brown, Don Nelson, Lenny Wilkens, Phil Jackson, Pat Riley and Jerry Sloan. Karl won his 1000th win milestone last week when the
Nuggets visited Toronto to take on the Raptors.
Jackson also announced another fine today when he penalized Andre Miller of the Portland Trail Blazers. Miller was also fined twenty five thousand dollars by the league.
Following their 98-103 defeat against the Dallas Mavericks on 15th Dec. Wednesday, Miller threw a ball into the stands endangering the crowd. The league took notice of this act and accordingly fined the Blazers’ guard
today.
