NBA Update: Second Half Analysis: Los Angeles Lakers vs. Detroit Pistons
The Lakers were leading by the end of second quarter, 45-42.
3rd Quarter
Derek Fisher rebound the ball for the Lakers after Charlie Villanueva missed a three pointer at the very beginning of the second half. Fisher missed a jump shot and Gerald Wallace rebound the ball for Detroit. Ron Artest made the first shot of the third
quarter as Pau Gasol gave him an assist, 48-42. Fisher trounced one more three pointer after Artest’s shot and was assisted by Kobe Bryant.
Bryant committed a shooting foul at 9:43 on clock. The result was two free throws by Tracy McGrady that earned the player 12 points and his team advanced from 42 to 44. Villanueva committed a shooting foul at 8:59 on the clock and Gasol trounced two free
throws for the Lakers. The Lakers were still leading, 53-44.
Bryant arrived with another dunk shot as Artest gave him an assist to edge the scores further, 61-44. Bynum trounced a layup shot to add two more to the box and after Wallace’s shooting foul he made a free throw attempt as well. Artest’s driving dunk shot
gave the Lakers a 20 point lead over the struggling Pistons and the third quarter saw another lead at dispense of Lakers, 76-59.
4th Quarter
Matt Barnes gave a bad pass at the very beginning of the final quarter and (Pistons) Greg Monroe missed the jump shot that came their way. Daye gave a layup shot at 11:40 in the game and Bynum slam dunked as Steve Blake gave him an assist to clinch his first
assist. Lamar Odom made a layup shot to score his 11th shot and the Pistons had a team timeout at 10 minutes left in game.
Blake made a layup shot with Odom’s assist to score 84 for the Pistons. Shannon Brown took a leap to make a driving layup shot as Odom came forward to give his teammate another assist. Jason Maxiell committed a shooting foul and Odom trounced not one or
two but three free throws for the Lakers, taking them from 91 to 94. Bynum made a jump shot for Detroit as Austin Daye gave his second assist.
As the game started taking its last breaths, the Lakers’ gained more confidence in their play. The Pistons, however, struggled hard to cover up the gap but the Lakers wouldn’t allow them. Bynum made a reverse layup shot as Monroe gave him an assist to lengthen
the score to 72. While Derrick Caracter committed a loose ball foul, Bynum attempted a free throw for the Pistons to close the game with score, 83-108.
