NBA Update: The Boston Celtics rejoices a victory 109-86 against the Detroit Pistons
The game was an exciting one from the start with open challenges from Paul Pierce in the right beginning. He stood there holding the ball longer than expected like a bull bears his horns in a bullfight. The player gave his team a brilliant lead in the start
with an open shot that earned them 20 points.
The Celtics clinched the game with 109-86, giving the opponents a tougher competition than they had expected. This was the highest score scored by the Celtics this season. The venue was Palace of Auburn Hills, Detroit.
The Pistons gave as many as 17 turnovers whereas the Celtics were safe in giving only 8. With 38 points in the paint, the Pistons couldn’t provoke the Celtics more who had 46 to their credit already.
The Celtics had a very glorious opening, as they gave only a single turnover in the first quarter and had scored a healthy 41 points.
The cheerful opening by Paul Pierce opened gates for the rest of the players to come forward and prove their metal.
"There's not a coach in America who wouldn't take 33 assists and eight turnovers,"
said coach Doc Rivers who was not very pleased with his team at the beginning.
Unfortunately O’ Neal couldn’t quench his thirst but only please his eyes as he sat looking at the rest of the match and his team mates after he bruised his knee accidentally. This was the price he had to pay for playing against the Knicks. He had also missed
his two practices so it was very unpractical for him to join in.
It was not very hard for ruthless and gigantic players like Robinson and Daniels to beat the Pistons. Since Celtics always give their opponents a tough time and always have points on their mind.
Kevin Garnett was in his best spirits as he scored 22 points. Rondo offered his best and gave nine points to the team with his efforts.
Austin Daye was playing the power forward, because the previous forward Jonas Jerebko could not resume his game due to Achilles tendon, too bad for Detroit Pistons who were already in dire need of a hero.
Kevin did his best as expected by his team mates and the coach.
"We knew we had an advantage with Kevin in the post, so we were going to try to exploit that," said a happy Rivers.
"They didn't try to do much trapping, and the few times they did, we did a great job of moving the ball to the open man."
Thanks to the Celtics point guard who guarded his team perfectly and helped them get 52 percent from the field.
Seems like luck had not been very fair to the team Pistons as Richard Hamilton another important player could not make it to the game because he had a sore right foot.
Charlie Villanueva was there to support the team though. He made 17 points for the team and somehow filled in the empty spaces left because of the few missing players.
Semih Erden, a Turkish 7 foot tall rookie made his NBA debut by playing against the Pistons for Celtics. He was fast enough to learn and grabbed the game by blocking two shots of the opponent team.
Erden played his major role in putting the Celtics ahead of the Pistons 39-28. These were the first NBA points he scored, certainly memorable ones.
Overall, the game was a thrilling one, keeping the spectators amused and making them wonder who is going to take the lead in the end. Lets not forget that the game was surprisingly exciting in the start but it was very clear in the fourth quarter that the
Celtics are the ones who are going to stand in triumph at the end.
Rondo made a record for the first four games of a season with his 17 assists. The Celtics did amaze everyone with a performance they gave. They truly had prepared well for this one.
