Philadelphia 76ers overcome Golden State Warriors 125-117
The Philadelphia 76ers extended their winning streak to two games with a narrow 125-117 overtime win over the Golden State Warriors at Wells Fargo Centre on Sunday night.
Seven Philadelphia players scored in double figures while rookie Evan Turner and forward Thaddeus Young scored 20 points each in the victory. Andre Iguodala came up with his second straight triple-double as he contributed 15 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds
for Philadelphia.
Monta Ellis did all he could as he finished with a game-high 27 points, including 18 in the fourth quarter. Stephen Curry chipped in with 22 points and seven assists, while David Lee registered 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Warriors, who have dropped
two games in a row.
Guard Jrue Holiday paced the Sixers with 11 points in the first quarter as Philadelphia held a 31-25 lead after the opening quarter. The 76ers shot 68 percent from the field in the second quarter, taking a 64-56 lead into half time. Golden State and Philadelphia
scored 26 points each during the fourth quarter and were tied at 80-80 heading into the fourth quarter.
David Lee hit a lap-up shot to make it a one-point contest at 109-108. However, Jodie Meeks' right corner three-pointer gave the 76ers a 112-108 lead with more than three minutes left in overtime. Turner’s two fouls shots with two minutes left pushed the
lead to six, giving them a comfortable lead.
New York Knicks thrash Atlanta Hawks 92-79
The New York Knicks posted their second straight win with a 92-79 victory over the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena on Sunday night.
Amar'e Stoudamire led six double-figure scorers for the Knicks as he added 26 points in the win. Landry Fields added 15 points, while Carmelo Anthony had 14 points for the Knicks, who have won seven of their last 10 games.
Josh Smith, who was back after missing the last four games with a strained right knee, led Atlanta with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kirk Hinrich scored 15 points for the Hawks, who also got 14 points apiece from Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford.
The Knicks led by as many as nine points in the first eight minutes of the game and held a 24-19 advantage at the end of first quarter. The Hawks kept it close in the second quarter, to trail by just two points (44-42) at half time.
Atlanta began the third quarter very actively as they scored the first seven points of the quarter to take a 49-44 lead in the 10th minute. New York then went on an 8-0 run to go back in front, taking a 62-56 edge after three quarters.
The Knicks opened the fourth quarter on a 19-2 surge and Atlanta never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
New Orleans Hornets cruise past the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-81
The New Orleans Hornets recorded back-to-back wins by cruising past the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-81 at the Quicken Loans Arena on Sunday night.
Power forward David West scored 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds while Guard Marco Belinelli added 18 points for the Hornets. All-Star point-guard Chris Paul had 14 points and 11 assists for New Orleans, who then left the game due to a concussion
in the third quarter.
Baron Davis led the Cavaliers with a team-high 17 points, six assists and five rebounds in the defeat. Ramon Sessions and J.J. Hickson also scored 15 points apiece for the Cavaliers, who have lost six of their last 10 games.
The Hornets led 27-24 at the end of the first, 51-48 at half time and were on top 73-66 following a Davis three-pointer at the end of the third quarter. Leading by seven points, New Orleans outscored the Cavaliers 23-15 in the fourth quarter to seal their
37th victory of the season.
