NBA: Will Steve Nash ever win a NBA title?
Steve Nash is a veteran who has become the MVP two times and has played his seventh consecutive season with the Phoenix Suns but still has not managed to win an NBA Championship title. Nash began his career in 1996 and was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 1996 as the 16th pick overall. Since then the remarkable player has been selected in the NBA All-Star team seven times.
Nash was famous for his elegant duo with Amar’e Stoudemire who recently signed on to the New York Knicks. Nash congratulated him via a famous networking site called Twitter, where Amar’e responded back to him saying thanks.
Unfortunately Steve has not been able grab hold of a championship ring till date, he might be praised by people around him and his fans for winning individual accolades but that is not what the aging star is looking for, like every great player he wants to end his career with at least one championship to his name.
However at 35 years of age he was ranked as the 9th best player by the Player Efficiency Rating (PER), joining the Hall-of-Famers like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, and Charles Barkley. In fact at his age the legends previously mentioned did not play more than four games in the playoffs. Steve Nash’s PER rating is 22.5 in 16 games, with legends like Malone and John Stockton fall right behind him, which is quite impressive.
Nash might be aging fast but according to the basketball pundits he perhaps is still the best point guard in the NBA, followed by LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Experts also exclaim that Nash is still a hot topic amongst the basketball enthusiasts this year, considering the fact the most talk about players this year are not above 25.
Another misfortune to the team that occurred this year was, Stoudemire departing from the team. Critics say that the only chance that Steve Nash had to win a title before retiring, would have only been possible if Stoudemire was still present in the team. Now that he has left Steve’s chance of going even near to one has considerably decreased.
Nash with his ex wing-man Stoudemire has helped Phoenix Suns throughout the years, taking them into the Western Conference finals three times in the past decade. Despite Nash’s turnovers throughout his career, he is known to be a selfless and intelligent player. Additionally, he always makes a remarkable court presence. He has contributed to the Phoenix Suns more than any player in history has. He might not have won a championship with them but still remains a true Phoenix patriot.
Steve is not only famous for his basketball skills but for his down-to-earth nature. He opened a charity foundation in 2001 called the Steve Nash Foundation. The foundation focuses on providing services to children who are affected by negligence, illness and abuse; moreover the charitable organization creates opportunities for education and sports for the needy kids. Steve Nash Foundation gathers its grants through public donations. The foundation was given the Sports Philanthropy award in 2008 and the Steve Patterson Award. He also joined with the GuluWalk which is a Canadian operated charitable organization. GuluWalk was amongst the organizations that funded the people of Uganda who were affected by the war.
Nash might not be considered the best point guard or he might not be measured as the best player ever to play in the league, but Nash has a lot to be proud of. He helped his former team Dallas Mavericks to reach their 614 wins, the total which is only outshined by only two teams, the San Antonio Spurs who have won 633 games and Los Angeles Lakers who have won 618 games.
Experts insist the balance of power in the Phoenix is nil now and Nash is certainly going to go down in the coming years. However, he will be remembered as one of the greatest players ever to live. His remarkable skills are, and will be appreciated by his fans and the NBA nation.
