NBA basketball rulings help! Easy question, easy 10 points?

I am wondering a few rules that are in the NBA:

1.) If you are holding the ball, how long are you allowed to hold it for until the violation, is 5 sec?

2.) Do you have to be in the air to get shots *freethrows* while your shooting or doing a layup or can you still get shots if you were shooting or driving but you weren't in the air?

3.) How many times does your team have to get fouled in how long to get the penalty shots and how many are there?

Answer 1

1) You can hold it until the shot clock runs out or when you are in the post only 3 or you have to move

2)  You can get it either way. Your opponent simply has to foul you in one way or another.

3) 5 Fouls to get penalty shots and you get 2 normally or 3 if you are fouled outside the arc.
