NBA-best San Antonio Spurs humiliate the Miami Heat with a 125-95 win - Part 2
One night after blowing a 24-point lead in a shocking loss to Orlando, the Heat were looking to salvage some pride in the battle against the Spurs. However, the streaking Spurs had other ideas as they never even allowed the potent
Heat offense within striking distance.
The head coach of the Spurs Gregg "Coach Pop" Popovich said that the 3-pointers played a vital role in the success of his team.
"That's a ridiculous night as far as 3’s go." "It's very rare. We had it tonight and we are thankful for it. It made for a wonderful night," Popovich stated.
In a game that was expected to be thriller, it did not take long for Ginobili to come around the rim with a finger roll lay-up shot and score the first basket of the game. Few seconds later, he hit a three-pointer to make it 5-0.
Eleven minutes later, it was evident that the Spurs grasped the court, not for a close tie but for a romp.
The Heat played a sloppy basketball throughout the opening quarter as some very easy shots were missed. The Spurs were never threatened seriously, as they went up by 14 points when Bonner made his second 3-pointer. Bonner made
all four of his three-point attempts in the quarter for 12 points as the Spurs managed to take a huge 36-12 lead into the second.
Trailing by 24 points, Miami battled back in the second quarter as they went on a 19-9 run, getting within 45-31 at 07:21 mark. Behind the 12 points from James, the Heat managed to show up only 12 (62-50) down, heading into the
locker room.
In the third quarter, the Spurs scored the first four points of the quarter, to set the tone. San Antonio outscored Miami 32-22 in the third, taking a 94-72 lead into the final quarter.
With the game effectively out of Miami’s reach, Popovich decided to give his ace player some rest and benched Parker and Duncan for the entire fourth quarter. The reserves didn’t disappoint the coach either as San Antonio nailed
6-of-7 three-pointers and Gary Neal's bucket with 5:43 left, made it 115-84.
The Spurs led by as many as 21 points at 02:39 mark. This is a second consecutive defeat for the Heat. King James however is still confident and hopeful to make a comeback in the upcoming events.
"We are still a confident bunch," James said. "We know it is a tough stretch for us right now. We lost three games in a row, but I feel like all it takes is one win."
