NBA best bargains - Jordan Farmar, Mike Miller, Derek Lamar Fisher, Steve Blake, LeBron James
During 2010, a number of star players in the NBA free agency have all ready boarded their respective ships. Huge stacks of money have been spent by the franchises on various players; some players took what they deserved while some got more than they ever expected to gain.
Here is a list of the top 6 best bargains made in the NBA in 2010:
One of the best bargains in the NBA free-agency was Mike Miller. Miller previously played for the Washington Wizards and is known for his accurate shooting skills. It has been an amazing year for the young player as he is going to play for the Miami Heat alongside star players LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Various news reports suggest that the sharpshooter has inked a five-year deal for about $25 million. Mike might have only averaged 10.9 points per game in the last season, but that is beside the point because he is noted to be a good shooter and that is what Miami wants to bank on in the upcoming season.
White boy Jordan Farmar, the former point guard who averaged a score of 28 points per game in his High School days, became a free-agent this year and was on a prowl to earn some real bucks. The New York Nets, who have been desperate for quite a long time to grab hold of some good players, finally inked the deal with Jordan this year. They signed him on to a three-year contract for about $12 million. The Nets have finally obtained a quality guard that they had been longing for. With an experience of two Championship titles with his former team the Los Angeles Lakers, Jordan has learnt to play consistently under pressure.
It was a great day for Derek Lamar Fisher when the L.A. Lakers decided to sign him once again. Derek did not waste his time and neither did the Lakers indulge in a free-agent summit. Heat made it short and quick as Derek stuck a three-year contract worth $10 million. The 35-year-old might be aging fast in the eyes of his critics but Fisher played a pivotal role in the 2010 playoffs. He made one of the most crucial shots in the Championship finals against the Boston Celtics when Derek shot a 3-pointer in game seven which helped the Lakers take the lead.
Steve Blake, who formerly played for the Los Angeles Clippers, might not have created a lot of spark in the industry after the Los Angeles Lakers decided to welcome him aboard. However, it was another great win for the Lakers.  Steve plays as point guard and is extremely good at defence. He is also given a lot of credit for his marvellous ability to secure the ball. Although he’ll be playing under the shadow of Derek Fisher, Steve could certainly work as a strong backup when required.
For critics, it was a dark day when Miami Heat decided to call another former Cleveland Cavalier player Zydrunas Ilgauskas in their squad. According to experts, Zydrunas is a very professional player and has been playing in the NBA for a long time which is why he can be dubbed as a veteran. However, the man has slowed down over the years as he only averaged 1.7 points per game in the 2010 playoffs. The move has received scathing criticism regardless of the fact that Heat needed a centre desperately due to various injury problems in their squad. LeBron James insisted on hiring Zydrunas and the team is quite content with the decision. There are speculations being made that the ‘Diesel’ – Shaquille O’Neal might sign with the Heat as well.
Last but not the least; LeBron James is unquestionably the best bargain in the free-agent summit. King James is not only the best player currently present in the National Basketball Association but is one of the highest scorers in the NBA, averaging 29 points per season.
Experts believe that they are yet to witness anyone in the history of basketball who can create such a huge controversy around him in the free-agency. James is considered to be the best bargain due to the fact that the player has showed a lot of devotion and love for basketball by accepting a deal worth $110 million for six years compared to what he would have got if he remained with his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, for a staggering amount of $128 million. No matter what critics say about LeBron James, it is hard to find an athlete who has been given so much importance and at the same time, who would give up millions of dollars on an open market.
