NBA - dominating players in the history of NBA (Part 2)
Continuing the journey of having a look at the unstoppable players, George Gervin comes in next with huge amount of talent that he has. In the modern times you would agree with the experts who say that David Robinson and Tim Duncan are the great players of the game in San Antonio. But what the experts also say is that they cannot match the likes of George “The Iceman” Gervin in anyway whether if it is the skill, the talent or success. Experts say that he is not only the greatest player in the San Antonio Spurs but there is no match for the player throughout the league. This extravagant player was able to come up with good statistics during the course of his career.
The brilliant player averaged a very good 26.2 points per game for the entire career and was able to come up with consistent performances. Not only this, but he was able to cement his position among the best in the business by winning the scoring title for three consecutive years 1978-80. The extravagant player hardly won the scoring title in 1978, when he was able to overturn David Thompson’s statistics by scoring a huge 63 points in the last game of the regular season. The splendid player also managed to score 33 points in the second quarter of the game that left many stunned at the time, as they thought that it was not humanly possible. This record hasn’t been broken but Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets has been able to tie this record.
One player from recent history is also in the list and that is Allen Iverson. Iverson was once the big powerhouse of the game and one of the deadliest. But now, he seems to have lost the touch and isn’t the formidable force that he once was and this is the reason that he doesn’t seem to find himself some team to play for.
Allen Iverson is another achieved player and experts say that he is without a doubt one of the best that the NBA has seen. The Philadelphia 76ers drafted this splendid player in the 76ers squad, as a first round draft pick in 1996. It didn’t take Iverson long to set himself and tell everyone that he was a point scoring machine. The scoring abilities coupled with quickness and sharp game made him one of the most spectacular players of NBA. Iverson on his debut was able to bag a very impressive 30 points that made all the crowd rise and clap and congratulated him with this performance. The point-scoring machine seemed to have just burst and this is the reason that skill, scoring and mind helped him to make a record, which saw him being the first and only rookie to come up with straight five games with forty points or more.
Iverson is not that tall and has an average height of 6 feet but still then he has been able to get the basketball beside the other defenders with their lanky and strong body frames and then basket. Not only this but this excellent player was able to bag four NBA scoring title that further shows the hard work, talent and skill that this player had.
During the early years of his career, he was known to be a player belonging to Georgetown, who had a very excellent game and had a killer cross over move, which after he executed resulted in opponent’s ankle being broken in most of the cases. After the killer cross over the brilliant player used get inside the free throw line and come up with a sweet lay-up or shoot the ball, which usually went inside the basket. The statistics also agree to the fact of him being one of the best in the business that show him averaging 30 points per game four times and has career point statistics of 26.7.
