NBA draftee Kawhi Leonard optimistic about the NBA lockout
The NBA labour dispute is in its fifth month; the first complete month of the regular season has been called off and the last gasp efforts to salvage the season are all set to hit the wall on Monday.
It’s already been discussed before how much players, owners, arena workers and fans would suffer in case the season is wiped out, however there is one other group of players that would be hardly hit if there is no NBA action this
season.
It’s none other than new NBA draftees.
It is a proud moment for every individual and his family when he gets selected for the NBA draft. From that very day, his life changes completely and if he manages to impress every one with his skills, fame and money follows him
for the rest of his life.
The NBA Lockout has however spoiled the show for this year’s draftees.
However while most of the new draftees are getting restless and regretting their decision to declare themselves for this year’s draft, 20 year old Kawhi Leonard who is not too bothered about the lockout.
Labeled as “Mr. Basketball California” after performing exceptionally at school level, Kawhi was initially selected by Indiana Pacers but was immediately traded to San Antonio Spurs.
Kawhi is hopeful the season will start and he will get to showcase his skills soon at the big stage. He is immensely thrilled at getting selected and is not regretting his decision one bit. Expressing his feelings, he quoted
"I don't have any regrets, the lockout is bad right now, but I don't have no regrets. It's going to be over real soon. (Getting drafted) was an unbelievable experience. It's hard to explain it. You're waiting on that moment your
whole life and it finally gets there. It was just exciting. Words can't explain how I felt that night."
Good to know at least there is one individual who is still optimistic about the season this year and let us hope he is right.
Kawhi has used extended off season working on his game to polish his skills even further which will definitely pay him off once the season commences.
Leonard featured in Las Vegas Impact League and was also spotted in Jimmer Fredette exhibition game where he succeeded in creating an impression after putting up a good show in the court.
Apart from that, he has been working on his three-point shooting and jumping for a while now and for that he also received much praise from his coach Steve Fisher.
This lockout might prove to be a blessing in disguise for Leonard and with extra work out, his performance might be much bigger and better than what it would have been had the season started on time.
