NBA lockout is hurting Miami Heat - Part 1
Without an ambiguity, the NBA lockout has caused a lot of annoyance and agony for everyone related. It has caused distress to everyone, from janitors working in the arenas to the players. However what is most heartbreaking is that
it has exposed the real goal of the NBA owners and the players. Both the parties are least concerned with the sanctity if the game and have their eyes set on the share of the rewards that are related with their line of business.
No one yet can predict the long term consequences of this menace, but one thing is for sure, it will cause significant amount of damage to NBA. The reason for that is alienation of the fans. The league is much more than money involved
and both the players and the owners need to realize that. Down the tunnel, it is all about the fans, who are the source of the revenue that is generated by the NBA and then distributed to the players.
The aftershocks of this money dispute will emerge once this deadlock ends and the magnitude of their intensity will only become clear when the next NBA season start, if at all this year. However, in the midst of all this controversy,
there are some teams who are suffering the most.
One such team are last year’s NBA finalists, Miami Heat. Why – is what we will discuss in this feature.
Time is ticking for Dwyane Wade:
There have been fears that if the current lockout wipes out the whole season, veteran players like Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett, Grant Hill and Ray Allen might never be seen on an NBA court again. These fears are very
much genuine, but there are also some players, who are in their prime at present and a break from the action might put them off guard.
Dwyane Wade, the backbone of Miami Heat is one such player and he is only getting older with time. Everyone knows how big an asset he has become for Heat over the years. The 6 ft 3 in guard is at his peak at the moment and his
exploits last season were totally phenomenal.
However, Wade is not going to stay like this forever. His skills are likely going to remain same but his athleticism and agility will decline significantly with age.
Dwayne’s game has changed considerably with time. When he started, Wade had an exceptional mid-range jumper that was well complimented with a brutal bank shot and a sturdy baseline jumper. However, due to injuries, he had to sacrifice
all this. To avoid any further injuries, he has changed his game and fortunately it did not affect his scoring ability.
He will however be turning 30 this January and although he has Chris Bosh and LeBron James to share some load, but if he gets injured or loses his touch, the flow of the big three can break and with that, Miami’s hopes of winning
multiple titles can also dwindle.
