NBA lockout is hurting Miami Heat - Part 2
Distractions not helping their cause:
The heartbreaking loss to Dallas Mavericks in NBA finals last season is going to haunt Miami Heat forever. Miami enetered the ultimate clash as the favourites, however their star advantage and much acclaimed offensive prowess came
crashing down to earth against the spirited Mavs, led by the brilliant Dirk Nowitzki.
When Heat lost the game-6 of the Finals to surrender the title fight in their own backyard, the men from the South Beach were in tatters. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade were seen staring the court in disbelief and Chris Bosh, being
a sentimental player, was almost in tears when he made his way to the locker room.
To say that loss had left them devastated would be an understatement. However the defeat is history now and Miami need to move on.
The first thing they need to do is to stay focused and motivated. The extended offseason has provided the team enough time to recover from the horrors of the past season.
However in the off season, they would have wanted to work on their mistakes from the last season and more importantly build on their chemistry, the lack of which was quite brutally exposed by the Mavs in the Finals.
However, the NBA lockout means that the players cannot use the training facilities of the team, neither can they contact the owners and support staff. Also, being the star players in the league, Wade and James are expected to put
their weight behind the players union in the negotiations. The duo has been there in all the important negotiations and Wade even made headlines in the middle of last month when he got into a heated argument with NBA Commissioner David Stern.
This adds up to the fact that Miami have been the focus of media criticism and that from the general public since last year’s off season and when they lost out in the Finals, they naturally became the butt of jokes.
Now dealing with the lockout, prospect of pursuing overseas opportunities and cluelessness as to what to do in the extended offseason are all adding up to the problems of Miami. With so many distractions, I wonder they would be
able to keep themselves motivated.
