NBA mandates metal detectors for all play-off games after the news of Osama’s death: NBA Update
After the news of Osama Bin Laden’s death, the National Basketball Association (NBA) has mandated metal detectors for all upcoming play-off games for additional security reasons.
The NBA practically implemented this exercise on Monday night at United Centre, in Chicago when Atlanta Hawks were visiting the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference semi-finals. All the spectators, who came to see the match between these two giants of NBA, were scanned by the metal detector.
The United States of America’s (USA) State department issued an official statement in which they warned all the US citizens all across the world to beware of extensive hatred and anger towards them as their government has turned down a terrorist.
The statement warned, “Enhanced potential for anti-American violence.”
Now NBA took an action in response to this statement and made metal detectors mandatory for every play-off game in this year. Currently all NBA matches are played with mediocre security, but if the authorities do feel some kind of threat or violence in the game they also have the other options to beef-up the security.
Usually the entire league’s arenas do not use these metal detectors unless or until they receive instructions from the government. The United Centre’s website also confers regarding the security measure as it stated on their web page, “The potential is high for inappropriate or illegal items to be brought into the building."
The other play-off opener between the Los Angeles Lakers versus the Dallas Mavericks was played at the Staples Centre on Monday where all the necessary security measures were observed by the arena’s security department. They also checked all the fans from both sides that came to cheer-up for their respective teams.
The Staples Centre’s website also cautioned all spectators as they issued a statement on their web page which said that all the guests and spectators are “Subject to a metal-detector screening, visual inspection and a bag inspection conducted by Staples Centre security personnel."
The Los Angeles Lakers’ home court, the Staples Centre, is taking additional steps towards making their security fool-proof as they issued a statement, “Increased deployment of officers to insure the safety of our guests and staff. As with every event we are in communication with the LAPD and will continue to work very closely with them and follow their lead with all measures of security and public safety.”
No-doubt the news of Osama Bin Laden’s death was a great relief for all the Americans and terror-hit countries, but this very joy has jolted all the Americans as Tehreek-e-Talbaan and Al-Qaida have vowed to take vengeance first with Pakistan and then with USA.
