NBA players close to making a deal with the Premier Basketball League - Report
In a lockout situation, where the National Basketball Association’s players are going through rough times both professionally and financially, an American independent league has provided a ray of hope. As it turns out, the Premier
Basketball League is about to finalize its first contract.
The Premier basketball League (PBL) is men’s professional basketball minor league that was started in 2008. PBL came into existence as a result of numerous disagreements between the CEO of American Basketball Association (ABA),
Joe Newman and several former member teams of the modern ABA. The
According to various reports, negotiations are under way with one of the NBA player and his agent. The names and other details of the contract are kept under wraps because the negotiations phase has not ended as yet.
PBL is also expected to engage in negotiations with the representatives of several other NBA players. Commenting on the issue Premier Basketball League President and CEO Brij M. Desai recently stated,
"Basketball is a tradition in America and around the world. We wanted to make sure that even in these tough lock-out times, the stars from one league have an opportunity to reach their fans through a league that isn't stuck in
contract negotiations," said.
Many players of the NBA are nowadays planning to play basketball in international leagues despite knowing the fact that the environment has a lot of different things to offer. They would not be pampered in those countries the way
they were treated by the NBA.
The main reason of signing deals with those players is to ensure them that they stay in America and still get a chance of playing competitive basketball during the lockout.
For the upcoming 2012 season, last year’s champions the Rochester Razor Sharks will be accompanied by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Charleston Gunners, Dayton Air Strikers, Sauk Valley Predators and Chicago Muscle. According to a source,
Chattanooga, TN, Madison, WI, St. Louis, MO and Hershey, PA, have been named as cities which are waiting to be approved for expansion teams. The format for this year will include 20 games for each side, which in effect allows the NBA players to sign the contract
as the lockout issue is not looking to settled any time soon.
