Question:

NBA players going to Europe . .. . karma? David Stern to blame?

Solid mid level players like Josh Childress, Delonte West getting payed better in Europe as well as Brandon Jennings going to Europe rather than pretending to be a student athlete in the NCAA for are all signs of the game evolving. MY QUESTION, IS DAVID STERN TO BLAME? AFTER ALL, HE IS THE ONE WHO PUSHED FOR THE NCAA RULE AS WELL AS MOVING THE SUPERSONICS FROM A BIG MARKET IN SEATTLE. NOW THAT THE MARKET FOR BASKETBALL WORLDWIDE IS GROWING AND NBA STARTS LOSING BETTER AND BETTER PLAYERS TO EUROPEAN TEAMS WHO WONT PLAY BY SALARY CAP RULES, DOES THE NBA WISH IT COULD HAVE TAKEN SOME OF THOSE MOVES BACK?

  1. There are a combination of things to blame. First of all our economy is going in the crapper. The Euro is a lot stronger than the dollar. The European salaries aren't taxed. The money is better. Anyways, arent NBA players a bunch of thugs who want a lot of money and drive their Cadillacs.

The international leagues are getting much better. They are getting more talented and skilled. The international game is a lot more efficient because they stress teamwork and fundamentals. The game is growing around the world.

David Stern and the NBA team owners aren't making the NBA evolve. It's been the same for a long time. Owners aren't making the players happy. Josh Childress hated the direction of the Hawks. Players that aren't playing in large markets are tired of watching Kobe and LeBron on sportscenter. In Europe, they would be huge stars.

  2. i dont know whos fault it is but it is beginning to p**s me off...

  3. I think it goes like this. Ok, their team doesnt  re-sign them quick enough and then sooner or later a Europe team offers them a lot of money, so they go for the money. Then more and more start to leave and David Stern doesn't even do anything about it. so to answer your question, it's partlyDavid stern's fault and partly the teams fault for not  resigning them quick enough!

    And thats my opinion!

  4. If there was no NBA salary cap then the NBA would be ruined...

The richest owners would just make an all-star team and dominate.

Josh and West probably just feel under appreciated so they want more money, and Europe is their way to get more money.

"Salary cap tries to make things fair in the NBA. For example, Mark Cuban could probably outspend everyone but he can't."

Paul Allen has WAY more money than Cuban...

" (Paul Allen do have more money than Mark Cuban but Paul Allen is a cheapskate...)"

    lol yeah. I agree.

  5. It's the salary cap.

There's no salary cap in Europe so they can spend however much they want.

Salary cap tries to make things fair in the NBA.  For example, Mark Cuban could probably outspend everyone but he can't.  (Paul Allen do have more money than Mark Cuban but Paul Allen is a cheapskate...)

How is that David Stern's fault?

If anything, blame teams like the Lakers and the Celtics.  Everyone wants to play for them!

    --------------------------

How does the Sonics moving to OKC have to do with anything about players going to Europe?

Even if forcing teenagers to wait one year after graduating before they can sign up for the NBA draft, if Europe wasn't paying them that much money, why would they go?

    It's all about the money!

And there's no way the NBA would take back the salary cap rule. If they do, David Stern would truly be insane!

    Money != David Stern... lol.

    ---------------------------

Europe is able to pay this kind of money because the euro is now much higher than the dollar!  MUCH HIGHER!

Not to mention that, since Jordan, basketball has grown in popularity hundred-folds if not thousand-folds worldwide.

    ---------------------------

You want a solution?  NBA should either buy the euroleagues, merge with the euroleague, or sell themselves to the euroleague.

basically, force europe to also adopt a salary cap...
