NBA players planning a weekend tournament in the second week of November
NBA lockout is on the cusp of entering its 4th month despite the ongoing negotiations between the owners and the players. The first two weeks have already been cancelled and with every passing day now, chances of whole
season getting terminated are increasing.
To fill the craving of fans, players have been playing exhibition matches the whole summer and just today another announcement was made that will definitely cheer up the action deprived NBA fans.
Many big names in NBA are planning to play a weekend tournament on November 12th and 13th that will take place in the Thomas and Mack Centre. Amongst the confirmed ones are Allen Iverson, Derrick Williams,
Kevin Durant and Hakim Warrick.
This tournament labelled as the Las Vegas Superstar challenge has no affiliation with the next month’s planned Europe’s tour. No official announcement about the tournament is made yet however it is expected in 2-3 days. After the
confirmation, the list of names of the players participating in the tournament will surface.
According to the Daren Libonati, president of the justice entertainment group that will be managing this tournament, this tournament is the brainchild of Allen Iverson.
The tournament is scheduled on the same dates when Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez will be fighting for the WBO welterweight title at the MGM garden with a purpose to attract more fans. Shedding light on this Libonati said
"A lot of those guys are big fight fans, and they were coming here anyway to see the fight, This way, they can do both. This is actually a great weekend to do this," Libonati said. "You've got the buzz of a world title fight, and
now you add to that a world-class basketball event to support the fight. The timing couldn't be better."
NBA players have already played in Las Vegas during the two weeks Impact basket ball league last month which included veterans, rookies and the former NBAers however those games were unable to attract any crowd but hopefully this
star studded weekend tournament will allure more fans.
Price of ticket is set at modest $25 to make sure people come in numbers to witness the action.
"I think the hard-core NBA fan will embrace this event, but even the casual fan, the fan who comes out to the summer league, will enjoy this." Libonati said.
Tickets will be available by Wednesday at T&M box office.
