NBA players to participate in Barack Obama’s exhibition game: NBA News
The President of United States of America, Barack Obama, is organizing an exhibition game to raise money for the re-election campaign and in order to make it successful, a start-studded list of NBA players is gearing up to participate.
Sources close to the situation have confirmed that the political fundraising event will involve some of the biggest in NBA. The exhibition game will be staged in Washington D.C. on 12th December. The venue of the game
though is yet to be decided.
The players who have so far committed to play include Orlando Magic centre Dwight Howard, Oklahoma City Thunders’ Kevin Durant, New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Baron Davis, Phoenix Suns shooting
guard Vince Carter and former Miami Heat’s superstar Alonzo Mourning. In addition to these stars, WNBA’s all-time leading scorer, Tina Thompson has also confirmed her participation in the event.
The participation of Obama, who is a diehard basketball fan and has publically expressed his regret over the NBA lockout situation at least two times in the last month or so, is still not confirmed.
Last month, Obama made an appearance in the Orlando’s fund-raiser with NBA superstar Dwight Howard and had said that he was heartbroken on the elongated lockout.
"I had the chance to see Dwight Howard, and Dwight is a great friend, and I told him I'm a little heartbroken that the NBA season is getting delayed here. So I'm hoping those guys are back on the court soon." Barak Obama said.
Last week also, the president witnessed a basketball game on USS Carl Vinson and at its end, expressed disappointment at the whole situation. He however has refused to interfere in the process.
According to the New York Times, the president said about the lockout,
“It’s killing me.” But he added, “I’m not going to intercede. I’ve got some bigger fish to fry.”
“In a contest between billionaires and millionaires,” Obama said, “they should be able to figure out how to divvy up their profits in a way that serves their fans, who are allowing them to be making all this money—not to mention
all the folks who work in the concession stands and in the parking lots of facilities all across the country.”
The tickets for the event are not yet on sale however an official from Barack Obama’s campaign has declared that it will be available for the general public very soon. The Proceeds from the exhibition game will be transferred to
Obama Victory Fund, a joint account of the Democratic National Committee and Barack’s campaign.
