NBA regular season coming to London
The NFL has done it, so has the NHL and so has the MLB, now it’s the turn of the NBA to play some regular-season games abroad.
NBA commissioner David Stern announced on Monday the Toronto Raptors and New Jersey Nets will play two regular season games at the O2 Arena in London next March. Stern made the announcement via a conference call.
The commissioner wasn’t sure if overseas regular-season games would be a regular fixture but with the success of pre-season games in London, the time was right to introduce British fans to competitive games.
"We'll need to assess how we do in March. It would not surprise me if this becomes an annual event. But I don't want to make a commitment on it,” Stern said.
This off-season the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves will each play two games in Europe. The 2010 champion Lakers will face the Timberwolves at the O2 Arena on Oct. 4 and then play Barcelona in Spain three days later.
The two games between the Raptors and Nets will take place on March 4th and 5th.
