NBA star Derrick Rose set to rise further
Derrick Martell Rose was born on 4th October 1988 in Chicago, Illinois and currently plays for the Chicago Bulls. Derrick got to learn about the game of basketball from his three elder brothers and started his journey from there. As he moved to high school, he won two state championships and many regarded him as a future prospect in the game as one the best point guards. Rose was declared in the draft in 2008 after his great yet early years of career. He was the first overall pick and was selected by his hometown of Chicago by the Bulls.
The youngster’s first year in NBA started on a high. The star player not only got the Rookie of the Year award but was also selected in the All-Rookie team. His second season was also another season that he would remember in which he became a part of the All-Stars and played in the 2010 NBA All-Star Game.
Rose started his rookie year very strongly, by scoring 10 points in the opening 10 games matching Michael Jordan. This effort earned him the Rookie of the month in the 2008-09 Season in the Eastern Conference. The immensely talented player won the Skills challenge beating some of the superstars and the best players in NBA. The Bulls 7th position at the end of the regular season along with late efforts they made was a key to Rose winning the Rookie of the year Award. He joined the likes of Michael Jordon and Elton Brand after doing so.
The upcoming and future superstar played in his first playoff game against the Boston Celtics, the defending champions of the time. The rookie scored 36 points with 11 assists, 4 rebounds as the Bulls managed to barely win with a score of 105-103. After scoring 35 points coupled with 10 assists in his playoff debut, he became the second player in NBA history who was able to manage this. The first one who managed in doing so was Chris Paul. In his playoff debut, Rose averaged 19.7 points per game, 46% shooting, 6.3 and 4.9 assists and rebounds respectively. Though with the awesome statistics he managed, he couldn’t help the Bulls being defeated by the Celtics over the stretch of 7 games.
The 2009-10 Season started with a rest for the Rookie of the Year who injured his foot while playing in the first preseason game. Rose who didn’t take part in the rest of the preseason matches joined the Bulls at the start of the NBA regular season in which he managed only a few minutes in a winning match over the Spurs. The young and talented superstar managed to make it to the reserves of the Eastern Conference being the first in doing so for Bulls after Michael Jordan. In the first All-Star game of his career Rose managed to bag 8 points, 4 assists and three steals. Chicago Bulls on the other hand finished another season on a high making it to the playoffs. Rose had managed a scoring average of 26.8 points with 7.2 assists in the playoffs but sadly his team lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
23rd of April saw Rose target the Celtics and score a career high 39 points. This splendid effort included 15-22 field goals, 9-10 free throws. This superstar’s performance up till now has made him so popular that his named jersey is the 4th highest selling jersey in the NBA.
Other than the above mentioned awards that the youngster has achieved, he was also invited to play for the U.S men’s basketball team at the 2010 FIBA World Championships and agreed. Another award he achieved was the Best Breakthrough Athlete of the year in 2009 at the ESPY awards. His long list of awards starts from his sophomore year (2004-2005) and continues to date and is guaranteed to add to the already long list he has.
With so many years ahead of him, he is expected to perform and improve further into a potential a future Hall of Famer.
