NBA stars Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade to take part in homecoming tour
Tired of sitting around and waiting for the NBA lockout to end, prominent super stars from the basketball league have confirmed a homecoming tour for next month. New York Knicks super star Carmelo Anthony and Miami Heat live wire
Dwyane Wade spoke to the media about the even recently.
LeBron James, Miami’s sensational small forward, is also a part of the event and the "Homecoming Tour" will be starting with a matchup in his hometown of Akron, Ohio on Dec. 1. It will be followed by a game on Dec. 4 game in New
Orleans, with New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul on the court. A Dec. 7 game will be held in Chicago and the tour will culminate with a Dec. 10 matchup in East Rutherford, N.J.
"It'll be very neat," Wade told The Associated Press.
He emphasized the significance of star players, such as himself, going back to the communities that have helped them get so far in their life, while Wade also knows the workout can only help the players.
"First of all, this is something we talked about doing a long time ago as players. To have an opportunity to go to these different cities that we're from, to bring basketball to them at a high level and also have a charitable component
in each city and to be with the guys, it'll be cool. It's something we're looking forward to."
The tour was announced early Monday. It is supposed to be a multipronged event that will include events such as food drives, clinics in each city and educational outreach programs. All proceeds would go to charity.
Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has also confirmed his presence on the tour and said that he was delighted to be a part of such an event.
"I am so excited to have this opportunity to participate in this tour," Anthony said in a press release. "To couple two of the things I love to do -- play basketball and give back -- is special. This is just the beginning of a
movement to facilitate change in our communities and I am happy to be a part of a group of guys willing to lead the charge."
NBA players have been keeping busy throughout the lockout, which began on July 1st. During the summer a large number of NBA stars took part in pick-up games and amateur leagues, such as the Drew League and the Goodman
League.
Since those opportunities have dwindled, more and more players have been organizing and taking part in exhibition games for charitable causes. Orlando and Houston are the cities to have recently benefited from such events while
Boston saw an exhibition game this Sunday.
