NBA superstar Wilson Chandler enjoying playing in China, despite of hard conditions
The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) has made it very hard for the NBA players who want to play in China during the lockout. While the international governing body of basketball, FIBA stated that the NBA players can play overseas
if they have an out-clause option in their contracts, the CBA will only sign those players who agree to play a complete season without having the option of emergency exit.
With the outbreak of the new reports from the Chinese Basketball Association which included some hard conditions for the National Basketball Association players to play in China, a number of expected shifts of the NBA superstars
might have received a backlash.
However former New York Knicks energetic small forward Wilson Chandler, who last played for the Denver Nuggets during the 2010-2011 season, stated that he is enjoying playing overseas and is happy with his decision to play in the
Chinese league.
The 24-year-old Chandler signed a one-year contract with the Zhejiang Guangsha of the Chinese Basketball Association in the last month. Wilson Chandler’s contract with the Zhejiang Guangsha does not have an out-clause option, a
condition which was made mandatory by the board, which means that the NBA star won’t be able to return until the Chinese season comes to an end.
While talking with the Boston Globe, Chandler said that he just want to play basketball and he is having a great experience by learning different things in the Chinese league.
“It’s going great for me. I’m just learning some different things, trying to learn the new people. Practice is cool. Coach (Jim) Cleamons is a great coach so it makes things easier for me. He’s been a successful assistant coach
in the past and I think I can learn a lot from him” Chandler said.
A report was published on the Chinese Basketball website NiuBBall.com in the last week which must have hampered many NBA players who were considering making a jump to China during the lockout. The report suggested that Chinese
Basketball Association has the highest turnover rate as they have taken steps to avoid this in future.
“(CBA) has arguably the highest turnover rate of any professional league in the world. It is rare for a team to finish the year with the same two imports they started with, nor is it out of the question for teams to end the year
with two completely different players altogether.”
The CBA has restricted the teams not to sign an NBA player who has a contract with the league which means that only unrestricted free agents can now sign with the Chinese teams. In addition to that, the NBA players, who signs with
the Chinese league, cannot bow out the contract until the CBA season ends.
