NBA update, New York Knicks thrash Oklahoma City Thunder 112-98
New York Knicks played host to Oklahoma City Thunders this Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. Around 20,000 fans came to witness the match with the lead changing hands eight times while the scores were tied on six occasions.
The match started very cautiously as both teams were in no hurry to make attacks and score. They waited for opportunities to come their way. Their main concentration was on defence and both teams were strong on offence as well.
The first quarter started with New York Knicks scoring the first points. The home team came up with some strong pieces of play. Both teams’ similarities in strategies allowed them to nullify each other on several occasions.
However, Oklahoma City were very good in defence and strong on offence but were riddled with poor shooting.
Kevin Durant scored 13 points in the quarter and was looking in good shape ahead of the remaining three quarters. Durant was on his way to a productive night after having an amazing first quarter.
During the quarter, Oklahoma City Thunder scored 28 points, while the New York Knicks scored 27 points.
The second quarter saw the Oklahoma City Thunders suffer again. Coupled with this was the very strong defence of the Knicks that not only restricted Durant to long range shots but also the rest of the Thunder team.
The quarter saw the New York Knicks coming out strongly and they scored 36 points in the quarter compared to 27 points of Oklahoma City Thunder. At the end of the quarter the New York Knicks led 63-55.
New York Knicks came up with a very strong offence and defence. During the quarter, Oklahoma City Thunders also came up with a decent defence but it couldn’t stop them from scoring 27 points in the quarter.
The Thunders managed to score 23 points. The score at the end of the quarter was 90-78 in favour of the home team and it looked as if Oklahoma City Thunder were falling behind further with each passing second.
The final quarter saw few points being scored due to the fact that all emphasis was on defence. During the course of the quarter, Oklahoma City Thunder scored 20 points while the New York Knicks scored 22 points.
At the end of the match it was the New York Knicks, who won the match 112-98. Kevin Durant was the top scorer of the match, scoring 26 points, while Amare Stoudemire was second with his 23 point contribution.
