NBA’s most disappointing teams (Part 1)
One of the most concerning or difficult phases of life is if a person is blessed with talent but isn’t able to meet the expectations of the people. NBA’s Miami Heat is a prime example. The Heat either comes up with tons of glory through big and powerful players on the roster or they turn out to be the most over-hyped team in the NBA. There are always teams that have a lot of expectations but aren’t able to meet them and fail drastically. In this article we will be discussing some of the all-time most disappointing teams in NBA.
Experts say that the 2006 Detroit Pistons team was one of the favourites to make it through to the play-offs and then win the championship. After the Pistons had made it into the Finals two consecutive times, out of which once they won the title and the second time they weren’t able to overpower the San Antonio Spurs. The Pistons came with a new coach and started their journey to glory. The present coach couldn’t match Larry Brown but he was known for coaching teams that put up good solid offense performances and the fewest turnovers during a game. The Detroit Pistons were seen racing at the start of the season, when they were able to come up 47-9. The Pistons managed the best league record with 64-18 and made it to the NBA Finals. But this time everything looked the opposite from the time when they had previously won the title. The team simply had no answer for the formidable attack of the Heat, that had the duo of Shaquille O’Neal and Dwayne Wade come up with the title win that time.
The next team that disappointed the experts in the NBA is the 1998 Los Angeles Lakers team. The Atlanta Hawks and Lakers started the season on a high though both the teams were no comparison. The Hawks squad was no way near the talented squad of the Lakers. With Shaq in his second year, and Kobe Bryant, the team looked very and dangerous. The Lakers finished the season on a record of 61-21, and progressed smoothly through the Western Conference Finals where they met their arch rivals of the time, the Utah Jazz. It was considered more of a payback series, as Utah Jazz beat the Lakers in the previous season. All the experts and reports gave the impression that the Lakers were going to overpower the Jazz team and then it would be the Bulls and the Lakers coming face to face in the NBA Finals. The experts even came up with the prediction that they were going to win the NBA Finals but that wasn’t the case.
The Lakers started the series of the Western Conference Finals cautiously as the favourite team but as the series progressed the Utah Jazz dominated and in the end the Lakers were knocked out of the Western Conference Finals. Thousands of hearts broke as all their hopes shattered. They had been chanting “down, down the Utah Jazz will go down”. Though the early part of the series saw the Lakers and Jazz matching each other, the Utah Jazz was able to overpower the Lakers side. Los Angeles Lakers, however, learned from their mistakes and were able to have a very successful coming era. This glorious time saw the Lakers win 5 titles in 11 years and according to many they were heading for another this win. But in any case this was not the way the experts thought the road to glory for the 1998 Lakers team would end.
