NBA’s most recent unforgettable moments
While most of the world was resting or preparing for slumber, some significant moments took place in the National Basketball Association on 10 February 2011.
Just three clashes were held on the date and those were between Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, and Phoenix Suns and lastly Dallas Mavericks and Denver Nuggets.
However, three unforgettable moments must have touched the minds of the spectators and will stay there for a very long time.
Let us take a look at what happened and discover what would be the significance of those moments in the times to come?
Jerry Sloans steps down as Utah Jazz’s interim coach
The basketball world and NBA saw one of the most respected and devoted coaches resign and end a 23-year old coaching tenure with the Utah Jazz.
Sloan might not have won a championship or earned a coach of the year award during his tenure but he was without a doubt one of the most hard-working coaches present till date. The 68-year-old coach served the team for 23 seasons and was always of the opinion
that the team should emphasize on unity.
May be, this very same reason forced him into resigning. The coach went into an argument with point guard Deron Williams in halftime during their loss to the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, 9 February, 2011.
The point guard has been trying to dominate other teammates on court and this infuriated the coach, who believed that nothing was more important than the team.
The coach left the team with assistant coach Ty Corbin and wished him luck as he advised the new coach “to be himself”.
All the teams are devastated at the news but Sloan put it all on fatigue and said that he doesn’t have that much energy left now.
Ray Allen becomes the king of 3-pointers
Allen received a standing ovation, as the game between Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics stopped for a moment, and congratulated the star for his great achievement.
Ray Allen was all teary eyed after he broke Reggie Miller’s record of 2,560 three-pointers as he hit three 3’s in the game to reach 2,561 three-pointers in his career.
The player ran to Miller after he was whistled and hugged the player, who had set a milestone the milestone. Allen was overjoyed as he ran around the court receiving hugs from teammates and bumped fists with Kobe Bryant.
The sky is the limit and every record is made to be broken. Let’s see who carries this torch forward now that it has been lit by Allen.
Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol bump heads
As Allen was busy making history, a funny moment happened on the same court. The tenacious Lakers got into big trouble as Odom bumped into Gasol after clinching a nice tip shot.
Odom received not less than eight stitches on his head after heading into Gasol’s mouth. Both the players were left bloodied after one of their biggest wins.
But what is ironic here is that Odom will have to attend the launch party of his new fragrance “Unbreakable” that is to be introduced into the market on 12 February 2011.
The player was very disappointed after getting those stitches on his forehead but what is done can’t be undone, so good luck concealing those stitches Odom!
