Question:

NBC Not airing the Olympic Ceremony Live

The rest of the world might have been dazzled by the Beijing Olympic opening ceremony but angry US viewers clamoring for a glimpse of the spectacle on Friday were made to wait after a media blackout.

NBC which owns exclusive broadcasting rights to the US for the Olympics refused to show the opening ceremony for the Olympics live... opting to show the ceremony nearly 20hours later during 'prime time'

Sure this business technique may have worked great during the 80's but will it backfire for NBC's ratings tonight?

To me this just seems like a very dumb thing for NBC to do in the age of the internet.... What do you think? Will you be watching the Taped ceremony tonight?

  1. That's how the Olympics traditionally works when it is held abroad.  NBC has done that plenty of times.  Yes they will get ratings.

  2. This is completely stupid. Why should the rest of the world be able to watch the live opening ceremony and we have to be behind? It kills the entire spirit of the Olympic Games. Obviously NBC cares more about the dollar more then the spirit of the games and the United States. I wish NBC would give up trying to cover anything and give it up to ESPN. This is NBC's hourly programming guide. Welllllll, let's first show a half an hour back story on this particular athlete who had some hardships (yawwwwwwn). Then I think we will go back to the main booth and talk about the same events we talked about all day, okay now let's show another commercial we have only had 10 this hour. Okay let's show 3 minutes of the event.

  3. They have done this before.

  4. Doesn't bother me. Not sure why it would.

  5. China should never been given the Olympics to begin with. How soon people forget about tiamin square (or however you spell it) where thousands of college students protesting China's lack of civil rights were murdered and arrested in 1989.

Everything one will see on TV is for show. Once the olympics are over it will be back to business as usual. As painful for the Olympians as it would have been, the U.S. should not have participated. I myself, refuse to watch and give China a minute of glory.

  6. Thats ok

  7.   Who cares its the olympics. They give gold medals for synchronized swimming how g*y is that.
