NBC all set to provide coverage to 2012 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship
In an announcement made by MX Sports and Alli Sports on Monday, November 14, it was revealed that NBC Sports and NBC Sports will be providing coverage to the popular motocross series, Lucas Oil American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Championship, next year.
The package offered by NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network comprises of 3 hours of live coverage to the series on NBC Sports, while the latter would be giving coverage for 21 hours. The 21 hours is further divided into 11 hours of live coverage and 10 hours
of analysis, recording, etc.
It is the first time that the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship is receiving such a big television package. The 2008 series was able to air on television only after a week’s delay, but this time the action will be coming live from the competition
site, much to the fans of the sports.
During the current year, the coverage for the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross series was split between SPEED and NBC Sports, but the next year will see NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network will be taking the entire responsibility of providing coverage to the series.
Motocross has been gaining popularity in the recent years, which in turn has contributed to the grown of the sport. According to Davey Coombs, the president of MX Sports Pro Racing, motocross has been receiving more exposure primarily because of their partnership
with Alli sports. The latter begun their relation with motocross two years ago and has been making immense contribution to the sports in terms of exposure ever since.
Talking about the contributions made by Alli sports since their partnership with motocross, Coombs said, "[Alli] brought their experience in action sports and television to our enthusiasm for motocross racing. We also made some difficult decisions, like
moving the races from Sunday to Saturday afternoons, which proved to be very beneficial in building out our TV package."
The schedule for the next edition of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship is yet to be released, though Coombo expressed hope that the dates would be revealed in a matter of weeks.
