^^^ How pathetic? NBC says if it goes past 2OT they won't show it.....what about the fans who sat and watched the whole game but don't have VS so won't get to see the end of the game?

Honestly, I've never liked NBC with their hockey. I know they'd rather show golf or whatever that c**p is, so why don't they just quit?

You know make versus "the" hockey channel in the US. Piere Mcquire is a joke too.

Just start the whole game on VS and don't even worry about NBC

Thoughts?

  1. I do not really care for the announcers on either Versus or NBC, though their coverage (pre-game and post-game shows) are pretty good with very knowledgeable people. I think that there should not be announcers, every player should wear a microphone, and there should be a disclaimer of "foul language" at the beginning of every game.

  2. Yeah I'll agree nbc does a terrible job. It hasn't come to a triple ot this year(on the weekends), but that's not the point, you can't grow a fanbase showing one game a week in the afternoon. Hockey is the consummate beer sport. It should at least be on in the evenings.

An nhl channel wouldn't work because it couldn't grow the fanbase.

The nhl needs to go back on espn. End of story. Its a great sport. Don't feel defensive about it. Its a great sport. The issue was... post lockout espn wanted hockey for nothing, lowball them essentially, bettman balked... and here were are. NBC is not working. You can't show one game a week nationally and expect to grow a fanbase for a sport like hockey.

  3. NBC is awful.  Last year during the playoffs after the second overtime they switched to horse racing pretalk.  I was ticked.  Hey there is an nhl playoff game going on and they weren't even doing a horse race.  It would be bad enough if they cut off the game to a horse race but it was pretalk about the stupid race.  ESPN, ABC someone who gives about hockey take control.  Although if football goes on a lockout in 2011 maybe CBS will televise hockey and do it right.

  4. that does suck

  5. I feel for you guys. I think it's a joke that a channel won't show the  whole game. I remember last year when they went from the Sens/Sabres OT game to horse racing all the sports channels up here were making fun of their American counterparts.

  6. that's p**p! I mean I have VS and all but that really sucks for those who don't. It just goes to show how overlooked hockey is in the world of sports.

nbc is a big fat loser, but they're actually smart to have a deal/any kind of deal with the nhl because they know that the nhl will gain more popularity, and i figure that since they haven't sold their soul like espn, that they'd like to come along for the ride.

most of my opinion is in that link.

wagoners are wagoners, despite nbc. it's majorly unbecoming to pretend to be a sporting network, or even a hockey affiliated network. i would say cbc does this the best because there's an actual tradition behind their sports programming, and like i've been saying cbc would be better off if they split their sports and all other programming in half and just like specialty channels are becoming popular with everyone who has satellite and all that other ****, that they could have two basic cable channels for those two categories, and they'd still make lots of money and attract fans...granted it is a public station so them even footing that idea will bankrupt them...but they have a culture/music channel now, so i don't see how this won't work either.

i'm guessing nbc, vs, oln all that c**p is a lesser evil than not having hockey on tv at all, but really i think they're just along because they know they have the nhl in a bind, and that they're waiting for the time to come...i hope for their sake, and the nhl sake that they don't make any money from this deal because they suck butt.

the only reason i would want hockey back on espn would be for the nostalgia of my youth...but aside from that i've already pledged my espn bias so they can go to sports network h**l for all i care.

i just read all the nhl has to go back to espn responses...really. hahahaa. so that hockey can take a backburner to horseracing, golf, and poker, bullriding (oh i remember they have that **** on espn), lets continue, nascar, college sports (various kinds which i support and watch), soccer.

uh no. and all about this growing. i commend the nhl for thinking outside of espn, because espn cannot be their gravy and butter. that network will sink this brand/sport. it really will. i don't hate them because i'm canadian or because i'm biased...i don't like them because they have such a friggen strong stance against hockey and the nhl. that's my biggest problem with them. they wear money coloured goggles, but if they were a true sports network they would have hockey in their line of vision. i don't think the nhl has done a good job of trying to get espn back, but i don't think they should be. the nhl cannot be espn's bi-otch.

thanks for adding to the list laying low. i'm not going to comment about the basketball slight, but i agree about the garbage comment. i kid you not, i've actually watched the madden challenge on espn, when tsn switches over here, and that's also garbage. it's not a sport...even if it's about a sport. gaming is not a SPORT. if they want to say the nhl is sh*t to them so then be it, because you know what they'll be missing out while stupid nbc cashes in.

  8. Thank God I'm in Michigan and able to watch on CBC to avoid that kind of bull-bleep.

  9. I'd like to apologize for my countrymen, but it was the only way we could get rid of Maguire. Sorry we had to do it, US hockey fans seem like an intelligent bunch but we really had to send him somewhere and those idiots at NBC were the only ones willing to take him. I'm assuming the 2OT limit is due to having to put up with P.M. beyond this is just cruel and unusual punishment that would cause viewers to tune out anyway.

  10. I can live with it since they will leave it on in the Dallas and Detroit areas.

  11. The NHL has to get back to ESPN. End of story...

    Sorry NBA...

  12. It's that stinkin' horse race again, just like last year. I guess it's more appropriate to watch a bunch of short guys show their manhood by beating defenseless horses with whips instead of showing a true sport. It's bad enough I have to listen to Mike Milbury on NBC. The last time NBC was any good at hockey was when Peter Puck and "Showdown in the NHL" existed.

The game will be repeated on the NHL network that afternoon(or evening, depending on your time zone) if anyone is interested.

Competitive eating and puking, chess, spelling bees, and the world air guitar championships were left out from what that garbage EsPN cares about more. I wish E "No more S" PN would just go away. I can't stand watching 10 men jump in the air every 24 seconds .

  13. yeah they just gotta air golf instead. i don't ******* get it. who the **** watches golf?

  14. Lets make an NHL/hockey only channel that is free to all and you get to choose who does the play-by-play.

  15. its becuase of that stupid horse race thats after the game

  16. NBC is a joke, but let's face it, they know their target audience, and it isn't hockey fans.  I hate their policy, that means that they wouldn't have shown the Stanley Cup clinching goal in 1996 because it happened in the third overtime.  You want to talk about a way to kill your relationship with a brand, prevent them from showing the most important goal of the season!  I wish ESPN still did carry NHL and actually did a decent job of broadcasting it.  Sad that it's been so long since that's happened.  Almost makes me want to move to canada

  17. NBC are just a bunch of jerks...

Djup has a great idea.I hate going on channelsurfing.net for all my Ranger Games.lol

  18. I think that's retarded they would do that.  It just shows how hockey really matters so little to most Americans.  Not all.  But, most.

  19. I feel the same way.  That has to be the worst, changing the programing if it were to go into a 3rd OT.  I understand that it only happenes once in a blue moon but I still don't agree with it.

  20. NBC is the Pittsburgh game of the week. And the announcers are horrible. Of course I'm Canadian. I think VS. does a commendable job. NBC did this last year if i am not mistaken. They switched to a horse race or something? and never showed the winning goal live! ouch!
