NCAA Week Three picks
No.1 Alabama at No. 10 Arkansas
The Crimson Tide roll into Arkansas to face the electric offence of the Razorbacks. With Ryan Mallet leading the way for the home team, Alabama's defence is going to have to get to Mallet
early and often to disrupt the elite QB. Alabama will look for Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson to slash the Arkansas defence. Alabama has done it all year, so it shouldn't stop on Saturday.
Alabama 31, Arkansas 26
No. 24 Oregon State at No. 3 Boise State
Boise State's hopes for a national title may come down to this game. The Broncos need to destroy the Beavers and hope for Virginia Tech to roll the rest of the season. On the blue turf,
nobody beats Boise. The Broncos will be led my Kellen Moore. Moore will guide the team to several scoring drives, playing smart football while spreading the ball all over.
Boise State 41, Oregon State 24
No. 5 Oregon at Arizona State
No offence has been more electric than Oregon. The Ducks are averaging 63.0 points per game so far this season. Now Oregon enters Pac-10 play where they will face tougher defences than
New Mexico and Portland State. The Sun Devils almost stole a win at Wisconsin last weekend, losing 20-19. If they can control the ball, Arizona State could steal this one. In the end, the Ducks are too much.
Oregon 42, Arizona State 17
UCLA at No. 7 Texas
Not many teams are more inconsistent than UCLA. The Bruins start 0-2 losing to Kansas State and Stanford, then they crush a talented Houston team. Going to Texas will not be easy. The
Longhorns should pose, taking down Texas Tech last week. More of the same will come Saturday.
Texas 35, UCLA 13
No. 8 Oklahoma at Cincinnati
Oklahoma is another inconsistent team, except they have been winning. A Cincinatti team without Tony Pike and Marty Gilyard doesn't exactly instil fear into their opponents. Landry Jones
has a big day on Saturday.
Oklahoma 33, Cincinnati 20
No. 12 South Carolina at No. 17 Auburn
In one of the week's best games, the Gamecocks travel to face an Auburn team that just edged Clemson in an overtime thriller. Cam Newton leads the way for the Tigers at quarterback. The
massive talent will face Stephen Garcia and freshman sensation Marcus Lattimore. USC has the defence to win it, but Auburn showed last week that they never give up.
Auburn 20, South Carolina 16
No. 22 West Virginia at No. 15 LSU
Two teams that are ranked, but shouldn't be, battle on Saturday night. WVU and LSU have squeaked by against weak opponents. One team will take a big step back in this battle. Noel Devine
is one of the most electric backs in the country but the Tigers' defence is stout. In the end, special teams win it for LSU.
LSU 17, WVU 14
No. 16 Stanford at Notre Dame
Brian Kelly and the Irish have been looking to make a statement during the early part of the season. Now after back-to-back losses, Norte Dame faces a must-win situation against the Cardinal.
At home, the Irish win it.
Notre Dame 24, Stanford 21
Temple at No. 23 Penn State
Temple shocked many by beating up on Connecticut last week. But many people don't know about Al Golden, the coach of the Owls. Many look at him as the best option for Penn State once Joe
Paterno retires. The man knows football, and he is building a quality program in Philadelphia. However, Penn State has too much talent to lose this one.
Penn State 28, Temple 13
Virginia Tech at Boston College
The biggest game in the ACC matches up two teams with distinct stories. The Hokies tested themselves against Boise State and then shockingly lost in a short week to James Madison in the
rain. With more rest, VT should be ready to battle the Eagles. BC only got by Kent State 26-13 and will have to step it up to take down an angry Hokie team. Virginia Tech's key will be the offensive line. In the second half of the blow-out against ECU, the
line played well, allowing David Wilson and Darren Evans to run wild. Both backs will have to step it up with Ryan Williams injured. The scary thing is, Wilson might be the most talented.
Virginia Tech 28, Boston College 24
