NCAA football: Nebraska going for five in a row

The eighth ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers are looking to bring their winning streak to five games, but they have a tough road test this Saturday 20 November as they travel to College Station, Texas to battle
the no. 19 Texas A&M Aggies.

Texas A&M’s previous games

The Aggies started their season with a three-game winning streak over Stephen F. Austin, Louisiana Tech and Florida International.

Their winning streak disappeared when Oklahoma State beat the Aggies, 38-35.  The following week, A&M lost again this time to Arkansas, and then got embarrassed by Missouri to bring their losing streak to
three.

Since the loss to Missouri and a quarterback change, the Aggies have been on a tear, winning their past four games.  Kansas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Baylor have all fallen victim in the winning streak.

Nebraska’s season so far

The Cornhuskers have been on fire this season with the emergence of freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez.

They started the season with a five-game winning streak which began with a win over Western Kentucky, Idaho, Washington, South Dakota State and Kansas State.

Their 20-13 loss to Texas ended their streak, but the Cornhuskers quickly rebounded reeling off four straight wins.

Oklahoma State, Missouri, Iowa State and Kansas have all fell victims in Nebraska’s past four games, which lead them into Saturday’s match up.

Aggies’ keys to victory

Since they changed quarterbacks from Jerrod Johnson to Ryan Tannehill the offence has been an unstoppable force, winning their previous four games by double figures.

Tannehill also has the offence 469.5 yards per game and scoring 34.9 points per game.  That is in large part due to running back Cyrus Gray and wide receiver Jeff Fuller who have a combined touchdown total
of 21.  It will be tough this weekend as the Cornhuskers rank sixth in total defence.

"They lock you up on the perimeter and they work hard to take those receivers out of the game," Sherman said according to espn.go.com.  "They play man coverage as good as I have ever seen."

So it will come down to how quick the Aggies receivers are at ditching their coverage, and if they prove to be faster, they will have success through the air.  If they find it is not working, keep the ball
on the ground until the holes open up.

Nebraska’s keys to victory

The Cornhuskers are the definition of a one dimensional offence, excellent at running the ball, not so much through the air.

They welcomed back Martinez in the game against Kansas and he has stressed that he was excited just to be back on the field.

"It was very important for me to get back out there," he said to espn.go.com.  "It's my team and no one else's team.  For me, it's about establishing a rhythm for when we play Texas A&M and Colorado."

Rhythm will be a necessity when battling the Aggies 55th ranked defence.  It is possible that the Cornhuskers could run into trouble with their running game as it becomes very predictable over
time.

Prediction

Nebraska wins with a better defence.

Cornhuskers 28 – Texas A&M 10
