NCAA rankings week six
The NCAA rankings underwent serious changes for week six. The top five saw its first change since the season began, while the middle and the bottom of the rankings continue to fluctuate with regularity. Each team battled for a better placing in the AP Top
25, as the BCS Rankings are set to be released on Sunday 17 October.
Top 5
Alabama’s shocking loss to South Carolina over the weekend meant there was a new number one-ranked team in the country. Ohio State benefited from the Alabama slip-up to take over the number one spot. The Buckeyes are followed by Oregon State, who continues
to roll, winning their week six game against Washington State. Boise State was also able to move up a spot, back into third, followed closely by TCU in fourth. Rounding out the top five is Nebraska, which enters the upper echelon for the first time this season.
6-10
The 6-10 slot underwent a great deal of change this week as several clubs swapped positions. Nevertheless, Oklahoma maintained their spot at number six coming off a bye week. Following Oklahoma is Auburn who was able to jump a spot to replace Nebraska. In
eighth spot is Alabama who fell drastically after their loss to South Carolina. The Crimson Tide are followed by LSU, who was able to jump from 12th place after defeating Florida. Rounding out the top ten is South Carolina who moved all the way
up from 19th spot.
11-15
The 11-15 range experienced a great deal of change in week six after a number of their inhabitants either won big or lost big over the weekend. Now sitting in 11th is Utah, who dropped a spot despite a huge win over Iowa State. Meanwhile, 12th
place belongs to Arkansas, who also dropped one place after defeating Texas A&M. Michigan State made a massive jump from 17th to 13th after defeating rival Michigan on 9 October. The Spartans are followed by Stanford, who jump two spots
after sneaking by USC. Rounding out the top 15 is Iowa, who held their spot on a bye week.
16-20
Perhaps the biggest change of the week came in the 16-20 range, where only one team remains from the week five rankings. In 16th spot is Florida State, who jumped from 23rd after demolishing Miami (FL) in their rivalry game on 9 October.
Following the Seminoles is Arizona, who dropped from the number nine spot with a loss to Oregon State. The only team remaining from last week is Wisconsin, who moved up to 18th from the number 20 position. Nevada was also able to move up, jumping
from 21st after their win over San Jose State. Meanwhile, the top 20 is rounded out by Oklahoma State, who added to their undefeated record to go 5-0 on the year.
21-25
The bottom five in the rankings also went through several changes with two new squads joining the fold. Missouri was able to push their way further up the rankings with a win over Colorado on the weekend, leaving them in 21st spot. Mizzo is followed
by Florida, who dropped after their loss to LSU. The 23rd spot remains with Air Force, after they defeated Colorado State. Meanwhile, Oregon State found their way back into the rankings with a 3-2 record, defeating Arizona. Finally the top 25 is
rounded out by West Virginia, who was able to force their way back into the rankings with a 4-1 record and their most recent pounding of UNLV.
Meanwhile, Michigan and Miami (FL) were both dropped from the rankings, after suffering losses. Nevertheless, the two clubs received the most votes among teams outside the Top 25.
