  1. I had a horrible experience with NCL...so much so that I will never cruise with anyone again!

My husband and I went on the Norwegian Spirit.  However, my family went on a different ship and LOVED it.  My family cruised on the Norwegian Dawn a year earlier.  Anyway.  NCL includes all tipping in their fares so basically there is absolutely no incentive to provide any type of service to you, which is what we found.  There seems to be plenty for kids to do - we didn't take our son with us so I don't know much about that.  What I do know is this:  My husband and a bunch of other passengers got food poisoning.  We happened to be in port the day before everyone got sick so the ship medic blamed everyone's handwashing habits and insinuated we all must have eaten on St. Thomas to have gotten sick.  I can't speak for everyone else but our hygiene is impeccable and we didn't have time to eat on St. Thomas!  We got quarantined for 24 hours, missed Tortola and were assessed charges for room service, despite being forced to be there.  How else were we to eat?  Then during the trip, I was bitten by bed bugs (we later found our bedspread stuffed under the bed and not folded and put away).  We had to endure our room being fumigated too.  The food that is included in the fare was AWFUL, bland, no taste and well, you run the risk of being deathly ill every time you eat.  They have restaurants that you pay extra for and the food there was perfectly fine.  We ended up eating at those places every chance we could just to have something enjoyable.  The head of hospitality - his name was Tony - is rude and nothing that happens on the ship is anyone's fault except the passengers.  Oh, and if you're not an alcoholic, forget about getting soda or any other type of non-alcoholic beverage served to you.  There were tons of families with kids on this ship who let their little ones roam free, and basically trashed the common areas with their bottles and garbage and belligerent attitudes.   There is so much more but not worth the space to write it.  We travel extensively and this was by far, the most expensive and most horrible trip we've ever taken.  If you can, choose Royal Caribbean or Princess - they seem like a better cruise line.  In any event, enjoy your vacation but cancel your trip with NCL if you still can and book with someone else!

  2. i love being on there ncl is great. there is always things to do just to be sure look on the website. i know there are lots of game rooms  but as far as checkers goes i think you can use those things too and the books too just bring them back in the time allowed.  they have teen rooms , pre teen room / partys and as far as the shows goes they range from magic to music but some of the comdey shows are just for the adults. the have talent shows where you are the star and also the talent show of the member of the staff.  use the pools when you can and try to go as soon as they open dont worry about food they always have some some where . i cant swim in the big pools so i go to the kiddy pools and than there is the pool that goes for the one who can do around 3 to 4 feet. i am the first one there  and try to use the hot tubs too. the ports that you go to will make up for what you don't do on the boat . also they have TVs. so if you don't want to be outside you can watch a movie, just get the free ones ok. make sure you  bring  your passport and id, camera. and such with you. have lots of fun .also i will give you a name of the guy who did ours/ tcutrera@ncl.com his name is tom he is the best will answer any question you have. tell him his Friends from ct. recommend him.

  3. I don't know if you are asking about kids things for your kids or for you but here's the deal.  Regardless of which NCL cruise ship you are going on there will be plenty on ship to do. All NCL ships will have organized and supervised programs for kids of all ages.  Check out this web site:  http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruiser/cmsPag...

In addition there will be other things for kids, depending upon the ship, like pools and water slides, some hot tubs that kids can get in with their parents, a video arcade area, a game room that kids of all ages can use for board games like checkers, monopoly, scrabble (and the games are provided.  The library is usually not a big deal.  Its more a small room or an area on the ship that has some books, but not a large variety and there are usually not any people using it.  Kids usually spend more and better time in the kids programs and areas.

The best way to know specifically what is on the ship you will be on is to go to the NCL web site and click on "SHIPS" and then select the one you will be on and then look at the facilities and deck plans.
