Question:

NCL - passport required to Bermuda?

We're going on a cruise to Bermuda on Norwegian cruise line next month. I have something from Norwegian saying a passport is required , but according to the passport website, one is not needed for a cruise only for air.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks!

  1. Technically (by law) it's not required although the cruise lines generally recommend you travel with a passport in case you have a need to travel back to the US by air (illness, death in the family, etc.).  Since your cruise is coming up next month, it would be a good idea to apply for your passport using the Expedited Service which should get it to you in about three weeks.  It costs an additional $60 per passport, but if your time is limited it's the best option for you.

  2. Please check the following links:

  3. Many cruise lines choose to require a passport.  It is their choice.  You can apply for a passport now, and if it will not arrive before your trip, you may travel with the proof of your application if you follow the directions for the "flexibility" program at travel.state.gov.  You could also call the cruise line and specifically ask them about this due to the huge backlog on passports at this time.
