NDBA wants authorities to provide better facilities for Edwin training camp
It seems Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA) is quite serious about Edwin Iriawan's training camp that is starting from April 30, 2012 as it urged authorities to provide for better facilities.
National coach Edwin is coming Nagpur to equip local players and coaches with modern techniques of game and Subhedar Hall of Nagpur University is likely to be the venue of this training camp.
NDBA president Balbir Singh Renu showed his displeasure over conditions of the venue and stated that the authorities should improve facilities as Edwin’s arrival is certainly a big event.
He said, "The wooden surface is in bad shape with lot of wear and tear. The light system is poor. Since national badminton coach is coming to our city, we must provide him better facilities."
In recent past, university came under severe criticism for organising non-badminton events on court which ultimately damaged the wooden court.
The NDBA officials will visit the venue to make hosts realise the significance of this occasion and they will also mobilise them to take some steps for betterment.
Meanwhile, secretary of NDBA Mangesh Kashikar also criticised the University for not spending enough money despite of earning much from this badminton court.
He said, "There are more than 50 batches (one hour per court) play at Subhedar Hall. They charge a monthly fee of Rs 3000. The income is in excess of Rs 1 lakh. Compared to that, they offer little facility to the members."
The camp is just a week away and current condition of the venue has certainly put a question mark on its success.
However, a university representative Dhananjay Welukar assured that badminton courts will be renovated in couple of days. He claimed that the governing committee will leave no stone unturned to make this venture successful.
He said, "The renovation of the Subhedar Hall is in our priority list. We are determined to change the face of the hall by providing the necessary facilities."
The camp has been organised on special request of provincial body to promote the game in small cities. This training session, under the supervision of national coach Edwin Iriawan, will be a great opportunity for domestic shuttlers and coaches to elevate
their respective skills.
