“It is a very good result at this stage of the season. All the boys fought hard for the win. The bravery and determination speaks for itself”, Pastoor was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
SBV Excelsior commenced proceedings brightly in front of their home crowd and had the first good opportunity in the 19th minute. However, Roland Alberg’s free-kick was parried away by NEC goalkeeper, Gabor Babos.
The visiting side recovered well and came close to breaking the deadlock seven minutes later. Lasse Schone’s long range effort was saved impressively by the Kralingers goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-de-Ruiter-c36797.
The Nijmegen outfit continued to mount pressure and Kevin Janssen missed a golden opportunity in the 32nd minute, when his shot struck the post before going out for a goal kick.
Moments before the half-time break, Samuel Scheimann brought down Nathaniel Will in the box, and Schone coolly converted the resulting spot-kick.
Krisztian Vadocz drew out a fine save from De Ruiter early in the second-half. The home side managed to create couple of decent chances to score the equaliser, but Roland Alberg and Moussa Kalisse failed to hit the target.
Five minutes before the full time whistle, Vadocz sealed the 2-0 win when his powerful effort found the top corner of the net.
All three points have ensured that NEC remain unmoved at the eighth spot on the table at the end of the Dutch top flight round-29.
The Nijmegen outfit will lock horns against Heerenveen in their upcoming Eredivisie encounter at McDOS Goffertstadion on April 14.
Pastoor has urged his side not to lose their focus and try to bag maximum points against the Friesland outfit as well.
“We have three days to get things on the track for Heerenveen. Hopefully, we manage to achieve a good result”, the Dutch trainer concluded.
