The English Premier League outfit had agreed terms with the Eredivisie side, but the 23-year-old midfielder has opted to stay at McDOS Goffertstadion.
NEC Nijmegen midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Goossens-c18857, has rejected Swansea City to stay in Netherlands until the end of the 2011/12 campaign.
The 23-year-old has an expiring contract that runs until the summer of 2012 and it was expected that the left midfielder would be joining the English Premier League outfit in the ongoing winter transfer market.
However, Goossens has now decided to reject the chance of moving to the English side.
A statement on the club’s official website stated:
“The agent of John Goossens has today told NEC that John is not responding to the offer of Swansea City. NEC had already reached agreement with this club on a transfer but the player has chosen to see out the season at NEC Nijmegen”.
Goossens revealed the reason behind snubbing a move to join the English Premier League outfit with the fact that he is not ready to take the next step in his career yet.
“I feel a move to English Premier League is too big at this moment. That is the main reason behind my decision to stay in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753”, Goossens said while talking to the media.
The 23-year-old is a product of Ajax Amsterdam's fabled youth academy, Jong Ajax, and started his professional career in the summer of 2009 at NEC, where he went on to become one of the most valuable players in the NEC squad.
The midfield ace has thus far netted an impressive 11 goals while providing a bagful of assists in 60 appearances for the outfit from Nijmegen.
Goossens’ decision to stay at McDOS Goffertstadion will certainly delight the NEC fans, as their club is looking to steer clear of the relegation zone. Occupying the 15th spot in the league table, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/NEC-c40018 are a mere five points clear of the danger
zone.
The midfield ace has also been attracting interest from fellow Eredivisie outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam. However, the Rotterdammers would now be looking to lure the 23-year-old away from McDOS Goffertstadion at the end of the season on a free transfer.
