  1. ah... this is back when math was easy! what you got here is something called a system of equations. the trick is that you need to cancel one of the variable and solve for one, and then take the answer and plug it back in to solve for the other. sound confusing? well it is better understood if i spell it out for you. let's first say we want to find out what x is first. it is the easiest one to do right now. in order ot do that we need to cancel the y out. now look at 2 and 4, do what do they have in common? you can get 4 by multiplying 2 x 2! but wait you want to get rid of the y so in order to that you have to multiply the first equation by -2. if you do so you should get:

    -14x - 4y = 8

      3x + 4y = 14

Now add the two equations together. the -4x and the 4 x cancel out and you get:

    -11x = 22

    divide the -11 on both sides and you'll get x = -2.

now that you know what x is, plug it in to one of the equations and solve for y. you don't have to cancel anything or such. just plug in to one of the equations and solve. in the end you should get y = 5.

to check, plug in the numbers in other other equation that you didn't use to solve for y and if the you get the correct number than you are correct.

the answers are correct because i checked for you!

i hope that explaining this has helped you understand this for the future!

  2. I can't give you a complete answer, but solve

    7([14-4y] divided by 3) + 2y= -4

you shold get the answer if you do it right.

  3. x = -6/7 and y = 5.
