  1. You have to get a guaranteed contract in writing before you sign.  Otherwise you are going in 'open contract' and you could go anywhere.  Not that that is bad.  It could open a new chapter in your life that you never thought you'd experience.  h**l, I never thought I'd leave the valley I lived in.

  2. I'm not a Marine, I'm Army but I can answer your question. If you got a 73 on the ASVAB that's good because the real one is easier just longer. You will get to pick your job. As for the friends I'm not sure I know in the Army you can get 2,000 dollars for every friend that enlists and helps you in rank so you can be going in to basic as E-2 or E-3. Once those people actually swear in and go to basic is when you get the benefits of recruiting people.

  3. ga4ljd is a bit off. Only the army *guarantees* you an MOS.

The navy and the marines can guarantee you a particular *field*, (like communications, aircrew, etc.), but they can't guarantee you'll get the specific job you picked... they might reassign you to another job in that field.

Remember, though... you don't join the Marines for a job. You join because you want to be a MARINE!

  4. i have some advice for you

before you sign that first contract at the MEPS, you should know your MOS already (look it up at www.about.com)

don't leave for the MEPS not knowing what your MOS is. or the recruiter might trick you to sign an open contract and you won't really want it (open contract means they'll put you in any place if they think you fit the spot and you'll stick with that MOS for the rest  of your service)

before you sign the final contract at the MEPS, that's before leaving for boot camp, you should ask your recruit for: Bonuses (like ship out bonus), MOS (your job, and obcourse you might already know what you want to do), promotion (if you invite 2 people and they enlist), GI bill and college fund (and don't be fool, if they said if you're gonna have college fund and GI bill at the same time, they're lying to you, you can only have either one, for instance, you pic GI bill, let's say it'll give you $38,000 and the college fund is $50,000, you won't get $88000 when you get out of the Marine Corps. IF you choose the college fund, you only get extra $12,000 for $38000 GI bill). and IF you enlist in a specific job, they'll have extra bonus for that field, for example if you choose Communication, they'll give you an extra of $12,000.

don't hesitate to ask your recruiters about it.

    Your job/MOS is not guaranteed

but make sure you have everything on paper before you sign the final contract, because every thing that your recruiter tells you won't matter

  5. 73 on the practice is good. Some people find the actual ASVAB harder and others don't really see a difference.

You'll be able to pick your occupational field and have that guranteed on your contract (ex: 0300 "infantry"). After you finish boot camp you'll be assigned your actual MOS at SOI.

Recruiting 2 people will get you promoted to PFC, but there are a few other ways that you can potentially be promoted.
