NEED Love-hate quote about conflict from The Things They Carried?

I'm writing an AP essay about Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried. I need to write an essay analyzing the conflict of Jimmy Cross about how he left a girl behind and beginnings to hate her even as he loves her. Can someone give me a quote about the conflict? It's to begin the essay with. PLUS if you can give me facts to support my essay that would be helpful as well!!

I can't give you a quote right off hand, but I can give you an example. When he was thinking about Martha, the college girl, one of his men walked off to go to the bathroom * I think this is when it happened* and on his way back he was shot in the head. Kiowa kept repeating what happened and everyone was getting tired of it.  But Lt. Cross felt guilty for it because instead of being there with his men mentally, he was off in his own world with Martha, and blamed himself for the soldiers death. So he tried to stop loving her, but I'm sure he failed miserably.
