I need tips on exactly HOW to sell 'em.

  1. Make yourself approachable... smile, make eye contact, and don't be afraid to call people over based on the headlines or specific article in the issue. Don't be obnoxius but informative. "gas prices down" or "sir/maam ... did you read the news about the (such and such)" ... if you have other products, mention them. "We have gum, mints, and candy" or name a few of the newspaper titles if it's more than just the local issue. People love to make money, save money, save time and/or get peace of mind so grab attention with those news headlines. Sell the features and benefits of your products ... "Looking for a Job?" or "Expanded Classified Ad Section" or whatever will get people over to you. Why sit alone and let the newspapers sell themselves??? They won't. Dress well but not flashy. Think of yourself as an actor and make your role that of a newspaper salesman. Go visit your competitors to see what they do. Stay away from those just sitting around waiting for sales to find them. That's NOT how to do it.
