I forgot about the party and need ideas that I can make from home or with very little prep or shopping. Please help. Besides the GREEN BAGELS and BINGO, I am lost.

  1. You can design a game around completing a rainbow.  Divide the kids into teams and after they complete each tasks they get to add another color to their rainbow.  The winning team wins a pot of gold "leprechaun hat from the dollar store filled with chocolate coins".

The games/tasks should have St. Patrick's day themes e.g.

    a) Complete questions on Irish/St Pat's trivia e.g. capital of Ireland, religion, who is St. Patrick, etc.

    b) Tossing gold into the pot.  Tossing a set number of yellow bean bags from a distance into a laundry basket.  You can raise the basket against a wall to increase the difficulty.

    c) find the four leaf clover, hide paper clovers with 3 or 4 leaves throughout the classroom.  Finding the 4 leaf clover gets the color for ther rainbow.

    d) complete a verse of an Irish song or simple dance steps.

Each of the first four colors of the rainbow should have clues.  The clues lead the team to the final piece of the rainbow and where the pot of gold is hidden.

For food, I'd serve chocolate cupcakes with green frosting and mint flavoring and  Sprite or 7up with a little green food coloring.  You can have the kids decorate their own cupcakes with Green licorice or fruit by the foot they cut into shamrock shapes.

  2. green pistachio pudding ready in 5 minutes.

make rice krispies and add a few drops of green food coloring to the mixture.

  3. go to the store & buy some "shamrock cookies"

  4. Put green food coloring in milk to serve with your green rice krispy treats. Have the kids paint rainbows and sprinkle gold dust on the bottom of the rainbow (pot of gold). Get some barbie shoes, stamp them in black ink and make little foot prints on napkins.

  5. okay, this may sound crazy but it needs to be green. perhaps shamrocks. if you wanna go crazy, you get make or bake (if you are one of those crazy chef type people!) cupcakes that are not only green but have shamrocks on them. better yet, shamrock rings. oh oh and go to dollar tree or hallmark or something, and buy little green necklaces, get a p**p load of them, and of course your little 4th graders can wear those. if they chose.

  6. I would go insanely GREEN. Its easy and makes for a different feel and fun ambiance. Green lightbulbs are key, cover the windown with green celephanse maybe even cut out some rainbows (of celephane). Shamrocks galore, green baloons, green punch, green candy, leprechauns, pistachio ice cream or vanilla dyed green. And then give away cash (o.k. thats going to far). make the place reeeeeally different than it has ever been before and it will be a party to remember for ALL AGES. hope you get some ideas here.

    Happy St. Pats!

p.s. tell the kiddies about the real meaning of St. Patricks day. its important.

  7. I made an oatmeal sheet cake for a party on Friday that I just cut and decorated with some powdered sugar . Relatively good for you and it is basically a simple spice cake. I don't even cook the oatmeal the recipe just called for pouring boilng water over the oatmeal. Some recipes call for instant but regular oatmeal worked fine with 20 minutes resting time.
