Question:

NEEDED: Board Game Ideas!?

I'm designing a board game for a college graphic design class. Here is the basic concept of the game:

- A board game based around a "road trip" theme. The board will be a map with a single starting and and end point. Basically, all players start from the same spot and compete to get to the end. By rolling dice, they can move across the map. By drawing cards, good and bad things happen to them, like "flat tire" and "traffic ticket".

I'm looking to make the game more fun and have a bit more strategy to it. The game shouldn't just be a game of chance. What fun ideas do you guys have?

Thank you!

Andrew

  1. Roll & move games don't usually have a lot of room for strategy.

    Try this as an example:

Each player gets 10 cards numbered from 1 to 10. Roll a die to see how many spaces will be moved this round. All players simultaneously choose a card and place it face down in front of them. The players reveal their chosen card simultaneously. The high card gets to move ahead the number of spaces on the die. In the case of a tie, the NEXT highest number wins.   The card played is then discarded.

The key to this idea is that if a good number comes up on the die, you can't just play your '10' card and win, because if anybody else plays their '10', you all cancel each other out. It becomes a game of bluffing.

I took the basic idea from a game called 'Raj', but it's just one example how you can make a game fun and easy without resorting to roll & move.

You can see more about it here:  http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/175

    Good luck!

  2. somehow put money in the game; and make stops. like, put in money that can be used to buy an extra tire, or food at a fast food place that you have to stop at. or for gas at a gas station.
