.NEF file - how do I open this photo file ?

I need to open a load of NEF files and can't seem to find a way to do it. The pictures were taken with a Nikon camera and saved to my computer - now I can't open them. Any ideas ?

Nikon uses the NEF format for RAW camera data. You can use the software the comes with your camera (ViewNX or CaptureNX) to develop these files into JPEGs. You can also use another RAW developer like RAW Therapee (free) or Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.
