One problem is that I'm a woman with health issues and its my parents house and they are expecting me to fix this problem for free and they paid my nephew to s***w it up, I do not mind doing this they are getting up in the years and so am I. How can I get two layers of linoleum, the square are not a problem they pull up or fall off < I'm using a pry bar and a hammer for the 20' year of glue/ backing and itching substance is really giving me problems. he put commercial glue on a particle board floor which is pulling up parts of the floor and the other I'm sanding and it was expect for tho have it done yesterday, I have laid flooring before but I had help and the proper tools and being they paid so much for the nephews job they do not want to pay for product needed for this job>I'm on 2 different painkillers and I will buy what I can to fix this or help me get this mess fixed ( I can not call someone I' m disabled and on a fixed income) pain is bad and sleep is very little and my early stages of dementia mother/ father not to far behind her is driving me nuts, I just need any good expert advice . 1. OK,,,time for some tough talk.

THE NEPHEW SCREWED IT UP,,,, GET HIS BUTT OVER TO HELP YOU. HE NEEDS TO LEARN THE WORD, RESPONSIBILITY.

Second, please tell me you are not sanding on the glue for 20 year old 9" x 9" tile, as there is good chance the mastic in the glue has asbestos in it. The chances are slim, if it is an economy house. They were supposed to stop making asbestos products in 1984,,,,but hey,,,a bunch of it went out over the next 3 to 5 years.

For your floor,,,,no easy answers. Just hard pounding work.

If you gouge up the floor to much, you may need to put down a sizing / leveling compound so the new floor is not damaged so easily.

Bottom line,,,, find the nephew, and get him to help. If he just used a commercial glue,,,,and the floor was working fine,,, he didn't s***w up, you are just mad that it is sticking so good.

Suggestion for help,,,, contact the church. Put out an urgent plea through the men's class, and be prepared with lots of tea, lemonaide, and fried chicken.

  2. Your in poor health

    Your back hurts

    You have no money

Quit worrying about that stupid floor.

  3. First of all, I would talk with the nephew and give him the choice of refunding the money he got for his labor to do it wrong or else he can remove the faulty flooring and move the appliances for you. That would only be meeting you halfway since you're buying and installing the new flooring. There is no way that the fallout from his poor installation should fall completely in your lap.

If he is not cooperative, then you'll have to enlist the help of members or your church or other churches through their community outreach programs. You could also call around to see if any companies in your area provide free home repair assistance to senior citizens. Some companies do that but you'll have to call around. I would start with the city office of senior services and Habitat for Humanity.

Finally, I would call the cabinet company and delay the delivery and installation of the cabinets. You don't need the stress of that kind of deadline with everything else on your plate.

This is a tough one but I think you can get assistance and will have to, all things considered. Think of it this way. What if you didn't exist? Your parents would have to pay someone to fix the floor if they ever wanted their new cabinets to be installed. They might not like it, but they would have to do it.

    Good luck to you...

  4. Why is your nephew not helping you get it up? At least help with the physical labor?
