I have been on tiscali broadband for a few years and I have an xbox 360. I wanted to connect it to the internet but my tiscali sagem modem box is usb port rather than ethernet. So i bought a netgear router and when i plug it in it is recognised as 'local are connection'. It won't connect to the internet on computer or xbox so i use the modem still. People have said you just type in the adress bar the ip but in that menu it hasn't found connection.

How can i connect to the internet ? Do i have to use the modem? Please help

  1. You need the modem to get a connection to the internet.  It's a little odd that your modem only has the USB connection though.  With ANY router you will not be able to use the USB to get it to work which means that you will not be able to get your computer and XBox on at the same time.

If the modem has an ethernet (the one that looks like a large phone jack) then you can use that to go from the modem to the router, and then connect again with the same cable from the router to the computer.  Then from there you could use ethernet again from the router to the XBox or just use the XBox wireless (if you bought that).

If the modem does not have ethernet and truly only has USB then you need to call up your provider and tell them you need a new modem.  They SHOULD provide you with a new modem that has the ethernet ready to hookup to your Netgear.  But that is the only way.

    Good luck.
