Kia Ora,

I live in the beautiful harbour city of Dunedin

which is home to the University of Otago,

famous for its 'Scarfies'

also home to yellow-eye penguins,

the Royal Albatross Colony,

an abundant population of sea lions,

fur seals,

dolphins,

and the occasional right whale.

I love Dunedin,

it is the 4th or 5th biggest city in the world

(by area, not population)

we have 22 beaches less than an hour away,

some just around the corner.

You can fish, swim, surf, sail, scuba, or ski - all the water activities.  

Lots of golf courses nearby, plus tons of walking trails, also horseback riding.  

You can play rugby, soccer, cricket, basketball, ice hockey, go snowboarding, skiing or curling.

You can drive about an hour in any direction and be in a totally different environment.  

There's the Southern Alps,

the red tussock hills,

the fruitlands and vineyards of Central,

the rolling coastline of the Catlins,

and the Middlemarch Tor country.  

I like Dunedin because it is ever-changing, and not just the weather.  

The student population makes it a vibrant community with lots of cafes and clubs and good live music.

Plus there are mobs of events every year -

for example, the "Gutbuster Race" takes place on Wednesday March 12th.  

It's a foot race up Baldwin Street, the steepest street in the world.

Then, during the Cadbury Chocolate Festival  in Dunedin, they have a Jaffa race -

they release thousands of pieces of candy (with numbers on them) from the top of Baldwin Street - it's a riot to watch!

So I guess you really didn't ask what's neat about where I live, but I thought I'd say anyway....
