NFL Annual Meeting takes place on Monday, New Orleans Saints head coach and general manager confirmed to attend - NFL News
This year’s National Football League (NFL) Annual meetings will be completely unlike some of the previous years’ dreary affairs where little or nothing was up for discussion.
This time though with the recent revelation of the New Orleans Saints bounty program plus other proposed rule changes to the game will make the annual meetings one of the most closely followed events.
The meeting scheduled to begin on Monday, March 26, 2012 will go on till Wednesday and a host of issues are up for discussion.
New Orleans will be represented by owner, Tom Benson and both general manager, Mickey Loomis and head coach Sean Payton are scheduled to arrive in Florida to take part in the discussions.
Payton and Loomis’ participation was in doubt after both received suspensions from the league due to their failure to stop the Saints bounty program and knowing its full extent.
Payton received a one year suspension for his role while Loomis will be suspended for the first six games of the new season.
Both suspensions will come into effect on April 1st thus allowing the two to participate in the annual meeting representing the New Orleans Saints franchise.
The bounty scandal is likely to take most of the time of the 32 NFL owners who have descended on Palm Beach, Florida with other significant topics also up for discussion.
It is expected that the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins will appeal the decrease in their salary cap for two years after both franchises took advantage of a loophole to overspend in an uncapped year.
The owners will also vote on keeping overtime rules implemented in the 2011-12 playoff rounds for the regular season. The new rules will allow both teams to retain possession at least once if the team with first possession scores a field goal.
The game will end on the first play only if the team on offence scores a touchdown.
The owners will also look into removing on field referees from making decisions on reviews with only the booth official having that authority.
The meeting will have former president, Bill Clinton, deliver the opening address.
More news is expected to emerge from the meetings as it starts on Monday.
