NFL- Can players injured in the 2009 season make a successful comeback in 2010?
Injuries are a part of every player’s career but the most number of injuries and some of the most dangerous injuries occur in the NFL. The way these rough and tough men throw their bodies away with courage resulting in gruelling injuries. Though these injuries are not easy to recover from, some players get injured for an entire season. The most crucial time for a team is when a productive player gets injured and his absence affects the team whether it is at the start of the season or at the end. So can players make an effective comeback from injury, especially in a game like NFL?
Anthony Gonzalez, one of the big names of the NFL was expected to perform brilliantly in the 2009 season. However, an injury sidelined him for an entire season. After earning a starting spot in the Colts team, Gonzalez injured his knee in a non-contact run. Gonzalez’s absence motivated other players in the team who needed to step up and take the responsibility. And so they did by taking the Colts to the Super Bowl. The team put up a good performance but were unable to clinch a win against an in-form and fully fit New Orleans Saints team. Now that Anthony Gonzalez is fit, the player is roaring to make a comeback and to finish the job which the Colts couldn’t do in 2009.
Earning a starting position in the Giants backline, Kenny Phillips was all set to have a break out year. But just two games into the season, Kenny injured his left knee. This youngster decided to continue when sadly for his team, his knee worsened and Kenny had to undergo surgery. Due to a long recovery time, Phillips took rest for the entire 2009 season. However, this young star is all ready to take up the challenge once again though according to some experts he won’t be the player that he once was in 2010.
One of the biggest losses during the 2009 season was that of E.J. Henderson for the Vikings. This player was part of the team’s strong defence and was on the road to cross the 100 tackle mark when during the 13th week of the season, the player broke his leg. Having suffered one the most violent injuries of the season, Henderson was sidelined for the rest of the season. This player is immensely talented and hard working and experts say that by making a comeback, Henderson will surely be an essential part of Vikings’ defence and will start from where he left in 2009.
One of the injury prone players in the NFL, Bob Sanders was again troubled by injuries. His injuries have been making the headlines throughout Bob’s career and this can be seen from the fact that he has only managed to take part in two complete seasons out of the eight seasons of his career. Already recovering from the knee injury that kept him out of the opening five games of the season, he joined the Colts once again. However, just after two playing games, injury struck him once again when he sustained a ruptured bicep and was out for the rest of the season once again. However this season, Bob has fully recovered and according to reports, the player is in the best of health than he has ever been. Sanders himself is very excited as he opined to the media that he feels good and is ready to make a complete season in 2010.
Aaron Smith, with 11 years of experience and a veteran of the NFL, is undoubtedly an unmatched player. The level of commitment and determination he has shown for the game and the Pittsburgh Steelers is such that experts say that Aaron Smith is one player who can never be replaced by anyone. Aaron’s deadly runs and swift passes tear though the defence, terrorizing opposition quarterbacks. The 2009 season saw this key player tear the rotator cuff in his right shoulder when the Steelers’ were on a six-game winning streak. After his injury, the teams’ defence stumbled and now that Aaron Smith is fully fit, the player says that he would try to make the Steelers’ defence as it was before.
What remains to be seen is that whether players coming back from injuries are able to put in the same performances and meet the expectations in 2010. Or will it be the case that they would also be regarded as players who could never get the form that they had before their injuries.
